we need strong black men

.
Been over to the Vault, trying to cool my ire, and I'm watching the Gil Scott-Heron documentary and thinking how none of those heroes ever seemed "other" to me. It just occurred to me. They were never "them" to me. I had a Free Angela poster up in my room. Felt as though someone had ripped my lungs out of my chest when they killed Martin. My very first crush on a guy was Harry Belefonte... at like four. He was thrown over for Liberace fairly quickly. Who was, in turn, thrown over for Korla Pandit... all in the space of about a year. I'm trying to think if there ever were any "they"s. I think I have only made any "them" a "they" on a provisional and temporary basis for my whole life.

The most sustained "they" in my whole lexicon is "us".

But it occurs to me that there are black men very well suited to rousing us from our stupor.

THEY are experts at what ails us all.
.

Sunny and about 68 degrees all day, and now the temperature is dropping fast and the rain has started. I don't know if we're going to get the light show and the hail and snow with it. The forecast says it's going down to 41 tonight, but... the radar also says there aren't any clouds over me right now... and... so... uhm... that's wrong and I guess anything goes. Old Uncle Dave, who's about 250 miles away, said that it was 48 in the morning and 84 this afternoon, which is a little extreme on both ends for this time of year there. In early Spring it's usually much more like 52 in the morning and 76 in the afternoon in his area. I've only been here for four and a half years, and most of that time I've been a befoggled wreck, so I don't have the best grasp of what's precisely normal for here, but I'm an expert on the Northern California coast, from San Francisco and up through Mendocino, and lows of 41 degrees are reserved for bitter winter storms on the coast. That's the thing about the coast. It's warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer than just a few miles inland. The ocean is supposed to see to that. It seems to be confused this year.

Doing a lot of running around today... this gorgeous, sunny day. I'm going to try to just pile up some links under my favorite realistic-looking plutocrat... cranking out all these images just so being fairly time-consuming and there being so much to squeeze into this day. So you guys might want to check this post more than once....

Very sensible people....

More very sensible people....

Well, maybe, but we probably did....

No, really, we want our way there....

Murderating fucks....

And get off it about this being a freak accident....

Read it and weep....

Do NOT listen to yer bank about this stuff! They are NOT on your side.

Don't act so surprised....

Or beat them over their heads with your monitors....

Nobody believes them anyway....

Hope they're listening to Norman and not Code Pink....

Oh, and that bullcrap yesterday about not nuking people?

Not so much....

I'm shocked, shocked, I tell you....

I'm NOT whistling Dixie....

Don't forget to check the pole ice levels....

STOP BEING A PARTISAN PUTZ AND STAND UP TO SAVE THE WORLD!

You really want to at least grab the second half of that Peter B podcast, because not only do they dissect the video Wikileaks released of our troops slaughtering obviously innocent people, but Dahr puts the crap we keep getting from Juan Cole about things Middle East in PERSPECTIVE. Ever since Cole came out with that complete fabrication position on the reëlection of Ahmadinejad, I have noticed a distinctly fascist-in-denial cast to his stuff in general. I don't trust him anymore, and the very end of this podcast nails it on one of the good reasons why none of us should.

Yeesh!
.

Burn off extra calories....
.

Okay, man. I did about a half hour straight of seeeeeerious aerobics, scared off the cops... and their dogs... and noticed that the extraterrestrial surgeon god has, in fact, done a MASTERFUL job of bolting my head back onto my body. Believe me, if all my flipping around and strangling myself in bed had not been enough to convince me, this dancing jag has erased any doubt, has done more than a thousand x-rays to assure the old girl she's not going to lose it next time she whips around to go snake-eyed on you.

That felt so good I'm having another cup of coffee and gonna smoke a cigarette, in peace, before I resume "celebrating" the general insanity. You should join me.

status report from khoönkhwuttunne

.
I think I gave you the harsh weather news last night, and I am keeping to my gratitude for the late spike in Arctic ice, not going to bitch about it. It has been raining and hailing and snowing by turns and in concert for pretty much all the time since I mentioned it last night. Old Uncle Dave says they were requiring chains between Willits and Leggett this morning, early, and if yer not from around here I guess you couldn't guess exactly how preposterous that is, but, well, it's too ridiculous to contemplate. A little trouble with ice betimes, sure, very early of a winter morn, but they come out and dust that with some reddish something so the logging trucks don't go skidding off the roads. We're talking snow on Highway 101 in April... in a LOW stretch of the Coastal Range. There's a stretch south of me and north of Eureka that goes up pretty high to give the ancients in the park a rest from all the vehicle emissions. There are days every winter where that's got snow and ice on it, but it's April. March is considered late for frost here.

I'm thinking just now, and I'm out of brandy, so, uhm, I'm sober, that my concern for the polar bears may be about to be rewarded by the buddhas of the ten directions. I may be getting polar bears for neighbors any day.
.

They upped my thyroid hormone dose a couple weeks ago, and that's making me feel much better. I have been maniacal about taking my vitamins—especially the D and B12—every night at "bedtime" and my hormones every "morning" when I get up... and keeping down to a size six for a solid year now. All those little inflamed spots all over me are gone. Check it out: I can shave my legs again without the task fertilizing fields of angry and bleedy mystery bumps. I've done it TWICE so far this week, and nary a blip. My poor hair is not breaking off anymore. I'm not scraping up fistfuls of it from my floor anymore. My teeth aren't breaking and wobbling. My chin isn't numb. My legs aren't cramping when I walk a block. I can think. I am not even a quarter as forgetful and foggy and unable to work up the fire to so much as put on my socks.

I think that if I had enough nickels to rub together I could do a fairly sustained imitation of a mover and shaker again... if we just didn't get too prissy about a timetable for what we deemed "sustained"—sleep disorders not yielding to anything as sensible as a schedule. I think just about every day, at some point in it, I could be relied upon to impress the living daylights out of someone... a couple someones... maybe even a bunch of them.

Imagine that!
.

Except... well... just now, leaving the house is not advisable.
.

I can hear my old friend Connie, from Maine, griping about what candy asses we Californians are about snow. She was appalled by what we deem mandatory chains conditions, said she never used chains in all her life in Maine, no matter how much snow. Sheesh, said she, Grow a pair! I actually believe her. I actually am pretty good, for a Californian, for a girl, at driving in awful conditions, but... uhm... this is pretty much useless in view of the pinheads on the roads with me, and Goldie's heater is dead, which leaves me having to drive with my window open to keep from fogging up so badly I can't see the road. I can totally deal with the temperature problem this presents, but the part about the water coming in with me... well... that is, like, really, honestly, so below optimal.

So. I have plenty of coffee. I have plenty of smokes. I'm jake. I can wait it out. I can think of all the polar bears who won't be drowning this year and busy myself swallowing vitamins and talking to you....

Would that the masses identifying with one side or the other of these lathering polemics could stop and notice that NEITHER side is interested in America... in the America set forth in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. This might as well be frank fascism. It seems that that's really what people prefer, that we're really just fighting over whether our fascism will kick poor and different people to death openly or just diplomatically allow them to die off in the great blind spot of no media coverage. Should this empire use might-makes-right to wipe out the excess baggage? Or should it just sort of let that baggage get lost?

Should we just shoot obviously unarmed and obviously not threatening people from our helicopter gun ships? Or let them carry on struggling out of sight? Should we just kill the women who will have to go back to wearing burqas? Or is it enough to kill their husbands now and let them die optionless beggars behind our backs? Do we want slaves to have the option of abortion? Or is it murder to deprive the state of its cannon fodder? Will homosexual activities stop being so exciting if we let them be okay? Or is it better to make sure the poor can vote for their preferred mode of abjection to plutocrats? Which kind of Constitutional terrorism should be squished by the iron fist of the State first? Code Pink or Tea Partiers?

I am seriously bummed Maddow has done this... but... maybe it will teach us what we need to learn.
.

Incidentally, it's now apparent to me that the door open to moving the tea parties in the right direction has closed, and we have the brilliant work of Democratic-Fascist Party shills to thank for this. Nice work, Groupthink.

Now you can concentrate on cheering Rachel to new heights—or depths—strengthening the gleaming PATRIOT Act.

Before falling ass over tea kettle for The Hurt Locker the other night, I watched This Is It... because the fat lady behind the video counter insisted it was marvelous, despite my expressed disdain for the idea. She was raving about how good it was and how wonderful Michael Jackson was. So I finally just did it to shut her up.

It was appalling.

They tried to sync a bunch of shots with recordings of him singing the songs, but they screwed up in a bunch of places.

He sounded like he was dying of a raging sinus infection through most of it... bunch of snippets where he's saying he has to save his voice for the tour. He couldn't dance for shit. Just jerk one part or other. It was STUPID. He was VERY ill. He looked as though he would drop any moment through much of it, quaking and panting after seriously not anything much in the way of exertion. NO WAY would he have made it through even the first venue of the fifty-stop tour. That was plain as day.

He killed himself.

He ruined himself with the facial surgeries and nobody with two eyes in their head and two ears could have missed that. Making the doctor defend himself is probably about trying to keep a solid ruling of suicide off the books.

Had begun to look harder for sites that might be termed "left libertarian" when some tiny thing accidentally yanked me back into the thought field experiments in space lizardry and, what the hell.... I don't know if it's just because I'm facing in this direction lately that I keep getting all these coincidences dropping noticeably in my peripheral vision or if they really are priming us for a fake attack from space or if it's just the buddhas trying to yank me off my screaming at the blindness with suitably way out theorizing. Whutever. I ended up listening to all this whacky stuff again, in my attempt to ground myself from even whackier things, but the thing that nags me is one physicist who started out being a respected 9/11 truth person.... I know I'm not making sense. It wouldn't be any better if I did. If you want to go off into the ether, here's yer chance.
.

burying ourselves

.
Karma is such a bitch. Most of us have been skating—running around seeming to hold our positions, rather than actually fulfilling the functions of our positions—for way too long.
And here's the kicker. Last year, when Jefferson County, staggered by the weight of its penalties, was unable to make its swap payments to JP Morgan, the bank canceled the deal. That triggered one-time "termination fees" of — yes, you read this right — $647 million. That was money the county would owe no matter what happened with the rest of its debt, even if bondholders decided to forgive and forget every dime the county had borrowed. It was like the herpes simplex of loans — debt that does not go away, ever, for as long as you live. On a sewer project that was originally supposed to cost $250 million, the county now owed a total of $1.28 billion just in interest and fees on the debt. Imagine paying $250,000 a year on a car you purchased for $50,000, and that's roughly where Jefferson County stood at the end of last year.

Last November, the SEC charged JP Morgan with fraud and canceled the $647 million in termination fees. The bank agreed to pay a $25 million fine and fork over $50 million to assist displaced workers in Jefferson County. So far, the county has managed to avoid bankruptcy, but the sewer fiasco had downgraded its credit rating, triggering payments on other outstanding loans and pushing Birmingham toward the status of an African debtor state. For the next generation, the county will be in a constant fight to collect enough taxes just to pay off its debt, which now totals $4,800 per resident.
I don't think our whole history of abundance needed to come to this, but I'm very, very hard-pressed to see how we can escape complete ruin now. Many of the space lizard people feel that the whole crisis can turn on a dime, that the flap of a butterfly wing on the other side of the planet can create the force that turns it all around in a snap, but... well... this is pretty damn pervasive and seriously damn bad... so... I guess we're gonna see....
.

let me explain

.
Back when first I was going to become a computer-owning person, right when part of the Bay Bridge had just fallen into the bay, I was determined, determined, to be a sensible person, in sync with the rest of the legal professionals out there, not bucking the evil tide, functioning as yer basic respectable sort, someone whose PC could smoothly interact with those of my peers.

Everyone who knew me, except one very doggedly pragmatic, commonsensical and businesslike Yalie, said, "Oh, nooooo! You are a Mac sort of person. You just CAN'T do that!"

I did it.

Thus I learned in intricate detail the hell people go through to be computer-savvy citizens, functioning in the digital age.

You fucking fools.

For a very long time, the affordability thing was the big excuse. It was NEVER good enough, but now it's REALLY not good enough. I was not a destitute person back then. I am now. Still, I starved myself, stayed home, skipped movie rentals and the odd treat to a restaurant dinner, for five months to have my new Mac when my beloved old one blew up.

Turns out that three monster brown-outs, right in a stomach-churning row, at my mother's house, when my machine was plugged directly into the wall, toasted my power source... and a couple weeks later it went down. When I went to Radio Shack to see about one of those battery gizzies that won't let brown-outs reach your computer, the guy there freaked about what kind of monster-good power source had to be in my computer to have survived that even for a minute. There's still a chance I can get to a Mac genius to give it a new power source....

That's the ONLY thing that ever went wrong with my G5 iMac in the five years I had it. It would STILL be rocking if not for that apocalyptic electricity bullshit happening when I'd been too careless for a few days.

I know that replacing it turned into a nightmare for me, but Apple bent over backward to ease my misery, and they very seriously made good on the ordeal. I ended up with something quite more powerful and functional than I'd ordered to begin with, plus a free iPod Shuffle... and, bip-bam... I'm now working on a Mac that has not given me one moment of grief. I plugged it in and kazaaaaaaaart.

Everything looks a thousand percent better on a Mac, everything. It feels elegant, even when it's set up in the barn. It's not like having a small washing machine or a Cuisinart sitting on your desk. It actually makes yer desk look prettier. It's fun. It's intuitive. You can work your heart out on it and it never lets you down. I know there are guys out there adept at making their Macs crash, but that has to be a guy thing, that knack for finding the very least perceptible weakness and exploiting it and exploiting it and exploiting it until something finally blows, because a Mac has NEVER crashed on me, NEVER lost my stuff, NEVER refused to submit to the precise way I want it to act in front of me, and ALWAYS provided me with a way to get what I want, do what I want, with everything I do on it.

Snow Leopard came with a few minor glitches, and even those were correcting themselves instanter, and the updates to fix them have come with due dispatch. I know there are some scarily tolerant humans out there, who daily endure veritable Perseids of glitches and hassles and mistakes and insults and do-overs and faux pas and breakdowns without complaint, but for those of us who value every micron of serenity, there just can't possibly be anything better than life with a Mac. If this makes me a Moonie, so be it.

The fucking ludicrous flap over ACORN, from all sides, in every angle, and most particularly the part where Congress put out an unconstitutional bill of attainder over it, the Democratic-Fascists finding it the better part of easier for them politically, getting the Republican-Fascists off their back, not really even slowing ACORN itself—ONLY accomplishing furies set ablaze over BUBKES in the mindless minions on both sides of the fascists-in-denial aisle—has driven me screaming naked off my cliff so many times I'm wearing the rocks smooth at the bottom of it.

Fucking hyenas braying about this crap for-frickin'-ever, as though it made one part of a scrap of difference, whatever the case—ignoring that the courts ruled ACORN must continue to be funded, ignoring that ACORN isn't defunct, just "reorganizing", "rebranding", breaking into its constituent parts, going to keep on keeping on, just without the now-inflammatory masthead—continue anyway to make a flipping federal case out of it, everywhere you turn, with everyone, screaming like banshees, EXCEPT WITH THE FEDS WHO DID THE HORRIFIC THING OUT OF ALL OF IT... .
And this will be the clarifier, Michael Parenti's amazing lecture on the matter, wherein he shocked me with his vehement defense of Slobodan Milosevic... video, 80 minutes. More important to hear, if you haven't, than the discussion at the image link. And you want to bear in mind that he gave this talk while BILL CLINTON was president... so... it ISN'T that 43 and Fudd were so much worse than those who went before. They were definitely less adept at putting it over on the public. So that, combined with the explosion of internet use in this millennium, we could catch them out so much more quickly. That's all.

This is extremely good stuff to listen to because it helps strip off our certitude about information we have absorbed that was pure propaganda... that we didn't know yet was pure propaganda... and is still running around unchecked in our heads. We are conditioned our whole lives by forces not in our power to prevent: our parents, our teachers, our friends, the tv, the government, the people who can gain from misleading us, everything that is customary, ritual, categorized in libraries, everything around us. Sometimes it is for the best. Others, clearly, not so much. To go forward as a rational actor in this world, one needs to strip this stuff from one's mentality ruthlessly, get over the desire to oblige the world and start doing the work to act in its best interest, to deal with the real.

I'm bringing up helpful hints all the time. Lots of times you will find them objectionable as hell, but my aim is to help you free yourself from this mental conditioning to the extent where real insight and manifestation of positive intent are possible. Note my stress on the word "manifestation". I mean to help people replace the expression of their positive intent with the manifestation of it, to change from the thin air to the concrete. We need to stop doing and perform, stop doing the illustration of our wonderfulness and be wonderful, manifest wonderful.

There is a huge distinction, but you won't be able to tell until you stop being so sure of stuff that isn't actual.
.

I mean, I guess I should have been clearer about this when I posted it, but Blogger was malfunctioning badly as I was trying to get it out. If you listen to the Parenti lecture first, or remember it from the other times I posted it, and then listen to George Kenney's discussion with his guest, you get a real flavor for both the progression of this perfidious stuff, and the kaleidoscopic confusion of those we call our intelligentsia that grows out of it.

It's akin to letting the official lie about 9/11 serve as the excuse for all the murderation and fascism that comes after it. If you are not dealing with the actual, you are not a rational actor. This is not only true on the geopolitical scale, but the personal as well. This underpins my insistence that people stop falling for the propaganda being generated out of things like the Tea Party Movement and the bogus terrorist arrests, start looking more deeply into these things, SEE them clearly, without bias. We can't stop psychopaths if we can't get clear ourselves.

I only have a few extremely minor quibbles with it, and I'm already thinking my way out of them. It's a good thing she focussed solely on the three bomb unit guys, or I'd've had a fist full of them, all centered around our boys not being anywhere near this socially acceptable in action, but with just the three, and doing what they do, it's fine. She put so much in there and never once tweaks the script or the music to highlight it, just lets it nail you, gives you the time and leaves you to your insights. That takes guts. Also respect. I appreciate that. This movie very seriously deserved all the laurels.

Warmongers and peaceniks, alike, can learn from it, and love it.

All that stuff about her drawing you into it, you being in it with them? True. 100% true. It starts out being nothing more than a well-produced documentary. You're almost going to get mad, but right before you do you've been grabbed by your collar and sucked into the screen, and you don't get let back out again until very near the end.

I'm not kidding. This movie was SO much better than Avatar, there's just no measuring it. I believe even the citizens of Pandora would agree.
