It is as though one could have an image from before the common era, an image of Lao Tzu. It's as though you could capture true manhood in one frame for everyone to see. This is an image of advancement that makes the boyz at the LHC look like monkeys playing with kazoos. Big men from everywhere might be felled by a glance at him, and that might set us free. Think of the priests and scholars and leaders across the globe in all ten times, and tell me how many you count who can come up to this that is shown here some one-hundred-and-sixty-plus years later. Or do you not see?

Unlike digital cameras that keep your right on the right of the image, daguerreotypes and other photographs show your left on the right side of the image. This is a salient bit for certain people to know when viewing images online and this image in particular. A person's left eye in a still image says much more than even the thousand words pictures obviate. It's the mark of the true human. So this guy is not only a real man, a man far advanced from the biggest men around today, but he's also a true human. I speak of him in the present tense because he's not dead.

I think I've managed to come down on one side of the theft-of-the-soul debacle. Maybe some bodhisattvas would deem it necessary to keep their images from the public during their walking around lifetimes, but not keep them forever from public view, because those who can see could be freed by the sight. So, from the early 1840s onward, you can expect to find hints in images. All clowns are avid about having their picture taken, and all vain people are extremely particular about it, but there is a rare human whose image is capable of yanking you out of delusion and setting you on the path to reality.

I find I cannot let go of communing with this face in the past few days and I don't even know if I ever will. I want a tapestry of it. I might use this as you might use a sculpture of the Buddha or a crucifix, but probably not unless pressed by stupidity so hard I have to stave it off like the vampire it is.

I'm still speechless in the thought of the heedlessness and arrogance of wasichu, the million entreaties from truth to be seen, to be realized, to become the stamp of transcendence for all humanity, the jailbreak for all living things. We are today as benighted as those who sought to forge the United States out of Shangri-La, only just capable of exponentially more harm, and displaying this capability now across the globe, to include spanning even your mindscape—which is far larger than just this planet—and perpetually less consequential than a pea.

Do gaze upon this indian every chance you get.

items to contemplate

For those of you reading on a feed, I have to say that either you should not read my posts until they are at least a few hours old, because I post them and then think of other stuff to link in them, or remember what I forgot to link in them to begin with, and update them, and then find glaring omissions of whole clauses that went into crucial sentences. I'm a wreck. Okay? Always have been. Part of this is my practice of learning how to just blurt out the truth, short form, but part of it is about tying things together that you may or may not have thought go together. So, basically, I'm telling you that very frequently yer not getting the whole thing, the gestalt. I don't know if that matters to you. But I feel a need to keep warning you, because your version on your reader does NOT update with the posts. It stays how it was when you clicked on it and if you want the final version, you should click in every so often.

.

Yesterday, I think it was DGPNorth who linked us here, in comments, to this video of an ex-Marine survivor of the attack on the Mavi Marmara, and no one should miss it.

.

Today, Blue! links us to this bit about Charlie Rangel comparing Obama to Cheney, which I think rocks, even if people will almost certainly start slinging mud about Rangel's ethics, et cetera, et cetera, et cetera, impugning his motives and his statesmanship as a result of it. I take great comfort in the fact that many blacks, many black leaders, have NOT fallen under the spell of Obama's skin color, nor have they fallen for his silver tongue. I knew in my bones when Jesse got caught disparaging him in private that we were in for it, and NOT because I think Jesse is impeccable, but because I know his heart is in the right place.

.

Agent BB2 brings me the sad news about Helen Thomas, which I'm sure you all know about already, but I didn't because I was thrown into another revery of cleaning up that dazzling-to-me daguerreotype I keep feeling the need to bump back up to the top of my page, and ignoring the intertubes all day so far.

Helen is a hero. Helen is Lebanese. Helen is beautiful. And her words were righteous. You should be teaching your children and grandchildren to be like Helen Thomas, and you should NEVER forget that or be too pusillanimous or PC to make this abundantly clear to anyone you ever see.

.

Late last night, lafin sent me this link about the bee thing. He'd been trying to tell me all the stuff I'd heard and read about industrial outsized bees was wrong. I don't know if it is or it isn't, but the main point of continuing to mention it is that colony collapse is not solved, this major, major, major blow to life on earth is not solved. It isn't something to get lost in this apocalypse.

.

Maybe you want to go petition against human experimentation, giving at least the appearance of grievance.... Just sayin'.

.

And, finally—at least for this very moment—this is what set me off on my revery this morning, making me ignore the tubes on my indian.

I'm going to post the new image above this soon, and at some point later will add words to it. That's the warning for the feed readers out there, in case they care.

U.S. President Barack Obama has been personally and deeply involved in the U.S. response, speaking with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu three times since the crisis began.

"There's an intensive effort being made here to make sure this incident doesn't have any effect on our common interests," an Israeli official told The Cable on background basis.

In their first call, Netanyahu simply informed Obama that he wouldn't be able to make his planned trip to Washington. In their second call, the Israeli prime minister gave a detailed explanation of what happened on the
Mavi Marmara, the Turkish vessel where Israeli troops say they were attacked with knives, wooden clubs, and long metal rods-and fought back with lethal force, killing at least 10 activists. The two leaders' third call was to discuss and coordinate strategy on how to deal with Monday's emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council, which early Tuesday morning issued a statement on the incident that represented something less than what Turkey and Arab countries had demanded.

The man doing the interviewing is trying to educate him while being perfectly pleasant....

But the MAIN reason to bother is his notion of What are they going to do with all these millions of people walking around without a brain anymore? sounded too much like right this very now. Guillotines! Brilliant!

Report: Erdogan considering visiting Gaza to 'break blockade'
Published 16:53 05.06.10 | Latest update 16:53 05.06.10

Turkish PM may visit Gaza, ask Turkish Navy to accompany another aid flotilla, according to Lebanese newspaper; Turkish military opposes cutting security ties with Israel.

By Haaretz Service

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is weighing the possibility of traveling to the Gaza Strip in order to "break the Israeli blockade," the Lebanese newspaper al-Mustaqbal reported on Saturday, according to Army Radio.

Erdogan reportedly raised the idea in conversations with close associates and even informed the United States of his intention to ask the Turkish Navy to accompany another aid flotilla to Gaza. The Americans asked Erdogan to delay his plans, in light of tensions on the region, the Lebanese report said.

According to the report, Erdogan is under intense political pressure to cancel security agreements with Israel. The Turkish military establishment, however, strongly opposes the idea of cutting security ties with Israel.

Erdogan has fiercely criticized Israeli for Monday's raid on a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, in which nine people, all Turkish citizens, were killed.

This fucker is sooooo "progressive" he's backing the siege of Gaza.

He has QUITE the opinion of himself, too, as a great defender of peace, notwithstanding the BLARING TRUTH that he will not be honest about Israel in public. Mister Do What Is Right And All My Constituents Will See To It I'm Reëlected won't cross THAT line. And, if you want instead to posit that he feels backing Israel's siege of Gaza IS right, despite EVEN the point blank slaughter of Americans in the bargain, what does that do to his Great Defender of Peace shtick? I'll tell you. It makes it that the "peace" he's talking about is the peace that comes when everyone in the way of either our imperium or Zion goes away.

I remember hissing and spitting and breaking things whenever the public service ads came on to tell you not to drive drunk because of how EXPENSIVE it is. Never mind how dangerous it is. Forget the innocent people you might butcher to death. FORGET THAT IT IS WRONG. Don't do it because you can't afford it.

Fuck you, Grayson.

.

No. REALLY! You gotta see that his supposed crusade to stop spending all this money on wars is about PR when you hear how little it matters to him that we are funding Israel's vicious reign of terror in the Middle East. He's like Feingold and Conyers... actually, all the rest, too... just putting a face on things he thinks we will respect. You drill down a layer and you find out that face is quite simply an outright lie.

.

And I can't get over his greasy whining for some respect from Scott, who was being infinitely more respectful than he has any right to expect.

I was just reminded by Old Uncle Dave of how snippets of information you don't even think you see or hear become embedded in your consciousness anyway. We're all pretty damn good at seeing it in, say, an AP piece that has anything to do with Iran. They never fail to mention that the West believes Iran is trying to build a nuke, but very frequently fail to mention that Iran denies it, or any other intensely salient facts surrounding that outrageous bit they stick in everywhere they can. The same thing is true whenever almost anyone is talking about Putin. You almost never even see his name without his old KGB employment mentioned near it... as though this, of itself, is all the proof anyone would ever need to believe heart and soul that Putin is the devil himself, going to do bad evil every chance he gets.

Yer kid could hear somebody say that one table over at MacDonald's, catch the tone, and right there be stamped with the certainty that someone named Putin is a rat fink people like us don't want to abide. Or it might not even be a kid. It could be any one of millions of dirt ignorant Americans hearing the authority of that tone, that audible sneer at the letters K-G-B and take it into their heads that that Russian guy is evil, evil, evil. No clue who he is, what he's done, what the KGB was, none of it, but that dire tone sends the name "Putin" into enemy space in their brains... when they didn't even know they were listening!

How much the more so when, say, Barbara Walters is blathering it in the background on The View over the beauty parlor tv? Or while you're channel surfing on your car radio, looking for some goddam music between the incessant talk shows... stuff you think is shit to begin with still flows into your brain when you don't even know yer paying attention! In fact, if you were paying attention you stood a chance of recognizing it as bunk, or looking it up and thinking about it to decide if it was bunk. It's bad enough when it's coming in neutral, let alone from ANYONE who might remotely be deemed an authority figure, someone higher up the food chain than you are. For most people, this includes anyone with a job in the mainstream media... even if they are from "the other side".

You don't seem to understand that your mind is a couple bajillion times smarter than you are and sucks up information you don't even know you "know" until it is waaaaaay too late.

Same with the space lizards in Washington, D.C.

.

I am very staunchly going to bed, and going to will myself to dream of Rachel Corrie's smile, just cry in my sleep for how the people aboard her namesake must be feeling as they defy the Israeli warships trailing them into Gaza. I can't stay up all night bashing my fear and loathing against every surface in my house again.

It doesn't fix anything.

GRAND ISLE, La. — President Barack Obama has visited a bait shop on the Gulf coast to talk with fishing industry workers about how the disastrous oil spill is affecting their business. Aiming to connect with everyday people who are hurting in the catastrophe, Obama rode south from New Orleans to the small barrier island town of Grand Isle, La., and stepped into Camardelles Live Bait. The shop owner was there to meet him along with a shrimper, an oysterman, a marina owner and others.... Draft UN resolution on Iran almost complete - Russia

A draft UN resolution on Iran with amendments by nonpermanent Security Council members is almost complete, the Russian foreign minister said on Friday.

Sergei Lavrov said the resolution excludes "paralyzing" economic sanctions and reflects Brazil and Turkey's initiative on nuclear fuel supplies for the Tehran research reactor.

He also said Russia and China have proposed that nonpermanent Security Council members be given more time to study the draft and the vote should not be rushed.

I tellz yiz, this is spooky. It went from pouring down gently but very steadily all day yesterday to somewhat lighter but still steady sometime last evening and hasn't stopped once in at least thirty hours. A damn HUGE helicopter showed up very low in the air in front of my house right after the rain lightened up last night. It did a couple of spectacularly loud circles and then landed somewhere very near but behind the ailing redwood trees next to my house, so I couldn't see what was up with that. They just started the sucker and flew off again a few minutes ago.

It would make five or six of any helicopter a city slicker might recognize. It looked like a giant orange dragonfly. In California, if anything is that orange, the orange of the damn Blogger icon, that means CalTrans... except there don't seem to be any highway problems nearby... could be they were expecting a spot south of Crescent City to slide into the drink... or moving more boulders up to it to keep it from sliding into the drink. Or they were using it to take out a redwood by the highway.

I can't decide between sitting here and agonizing over if some fucks used the rain to excuse taking out an inconvenient ancient and doing something to find out about it. Then I would know and that might be worse... since I didn't have any warning to be able to stop them.

Oddly, I didn't have one part of a fear they were here to drop commandos on me. I'd have taken some out with my ceramic goose or beaned them with the Avatamsaka before they got me....

The UN Security Council has condemned acts leading to the deaths of civilians during Monday's Israeli attack on a humanitarian aid convoy that was headed to the Gaza Strip.

In a formal statement adopted after more than 10 hours of closed-door negotiations, the council requested the immediate release of ships and civilians held by Israel and called for an impartial investigation.

Prior to the emergency session, almost all the 15 members of the council deplored the attack that left at least 10 activists on board the Freedom Flotilla dead and dozens injured.

"It is clearer than ever that Israel's restrictions on access to Gaza must be lifted in line with Security Council Resolution 1860," Mark Lyall Grant, the British ambassador, said on Tuesday.

"The current closure is unacceptable and counterproductive," Grant said.

France, Russia and China also called for the blockade to be lifted and for an independent inquiry.

The United States, Israel's traditional ally, did not request specifically that Israel end its blockade on the Gaza Strip. But it hinted that the measure at least should be eased.

Alejandro Wolff, US deputy permanent representative, said that Washington was "deeply disturbed by recent violence and regrets tragic loss of life and injuries".

Meanwhile the EU and Russia have issued a joint condemnation of Israel's use of deadly force in the operation, and urged the opening of crossings in Gaza.

Speaking during a Russia-EU summit, Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister and Catherine Ashton, the EU foreign policy chief demanded an end to the blockade of Gaza.

Their joint declaration added: "The EU and Russia call for immediate opening of crossings for the flow of humanitarian aid, commercial goods and people to and from Gaza."

The EU's president, Herman Van Rompuy, called for a "durable solution" for the situation in Gaza. "We regret the loss of life, condemn the use of violence and demand an immediate, full and impartial investigation," he said.

Dmitry Medvedev, Russia's president, said that the civilian deaths were "irreparable and aboslutely unjustified."

Meanwhile, Egypt opened its Rafah border crossing with the Gaza Strip letting Palestinians cross until further notice.

Palestinian TV said that Mahmood Abbas, the president, phoned Hosni Mubarak, his Egyptian counter-part, to thank him for "responding to the massacre" by opening the post.

Deadly raid

The statements reflected the international community's strong disapproval of Monday's events in the high seas, when Israeli soldiers stormed the six ships in international waters about 65km off the Gaza coast.

The ships with about 700 pro-Palestinian activists were carrying 10,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid for Gaza, the coastal territory under a crippling Israeli siege.

Israel insisted that its troops had acted in self-defence after being attacked by those onboard.

But Al Jazeera's Jamal Elshayyal, onboard the lead ship
Mavi Marmara, said troops opened fire even after passengers had raised a white flag.

Israeli troops have taken the ships to the port of Ashdod after seizing them.

Activists who were injured are being treated in hospitals while 480 others are been detained and subjected to interrogations. Another 48 activists have been deported to their respective countries.

Al Jazeera's Elshayyal is reportedly being held at a detention facility at Tel Aviv's Ben Gurion airport, together with two of his colleagues.

Al Jazeera's Ayman Mohyeldin, reporting from Ashdod, said: "We are still trying to get information in terms of the condition of the passengers...

"An identification and interrogation process has gotten under way, to identify the individuals and then provide them with the option of being deported immediately or sent to prison here," he said.

Global outrage

Freedom Flotilla has incensed people, triggering mass protests in cities across the world.

Thousands marched in the streets of Istanbul, London and Amman in Jordan among other cities on Monday, denouncing the deadly raid on the ships that sought to deliver much-needed supplies to Gazans.

But Israel has remained defiant with Mark Regev, its government spokesman, insisting that "Israel was totally within its rights under international law to intercept the ship and to take it to the port of Ashdod".

He said the people on board the flotilla were not peaceful activists.

"They are part of the IHH, which is a radical Turkish Islamist organisation which has been investigated by Western governments and by the Turkish government itself in the past for their links with terrorist organisations."

Reporting from Jerusalem, Al Jazeera's Jacky Rowland said Israel's reaction has largely been of defiance.

"Many [Israeli citizens] have flocked to the port of Ashdod to basically express their rejection of what they see as the foreign media's negative spin on events.

"...Israeli spin masters have been going into overdrive, doing their best possible to spin this event as though the Israeli commandos were not the ones attacking but rather the attack was perpetrated by people on board," she said.

Israeli 'cover-up'

But Israeli efforts notwithstanding, the country has come in for strong censure.

PEOPLE ON BOARD

Two Palestinians who are also members of Israeli parliament
Swedish author Henning Mankell (unharmed according to the Swedish foreign ministry)
Northern Irish Nobel peace prize laureate Mairead Maguire
[BBC said yesterday not aboard.]
Aengus Snodaigh, member of the Irish parliament
Irish writer and historian Fintan Lane
Three German parliamentarians

Murat Mercan, the head of Turkey's foreign relations committee, said claiming that activists on board had links to terrorist organisations was Israel's way of covering up its mistake.

"Any allegation that the members of this ship is attached to al-Qaeda is a big lie because there are Israeli civilians, Israeli authorities, Israeli parliamentarians on board the ship," he told Al Jazeera.

"Does he [Regev] think that those are also attached to al-Qaeda?"

Mark Taylor, an international legal expert, told Al Jazeera that every state, including Israel, has the right to self-defence.

"In this case, we're looking at a humanitarian aid convoy, with prominent people and activists, clearly not a military target in any way whatsoever."

Israeli media reported that many of the dead were Turkish nationals.

Hamas, the Palestinian group which governs the Gaza Strip, said the assault was a "massacre" and called on the international community to intervene.

The Hamas leader in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, urged Arabs and Muslims to show their anger by staging protests outside Israeli embassies across the globe.
Stay mad. Make this stop.

Egypt Opens Gaza Border Amid International Furore
Rafah Crossing Will Be Open 9-5 Indefinitely
by Jason Ditz, June 01, 2010

Israel’s Sunday night attack on a civilian medical aid ship, which left 19 people dead and dozens wounded, has sparked international outrage and brought renewed attention to the blockade, as carried out both by Israel and Gaza’s other neighbor, Egypt.

But while Israel has vowed that the blockade will remain in place Egypt has announced that it is opening its own border with the Gaza Strip every day from 9 am to 5 pm for an “unlimited” period of time.

Egypt has intermittantly opened the Rafah border crossing, usually prompting thousands of Gazans to pour into Sinai to buy food and other goods that would be impossible to obtain under the Israeli blockade.

Such openings are quickly met with Israeli outrage and demands to re-close the borders, which Egypt has generally done in a timely fashion. Egyptian officials have previously vowed that they will never permanently open the Gaza Strip without Israel’s permission.

Ironically Israel has played Egyptian complicity in the aid blockade as a way to dodge criticism, claiming that aid groups unhappy with the Israeli blockade should complain to Egypt, who has roughly the same restrictions.
Hot damn! It's not much. It is SO little, but, still, it is HUGE and it bodes well for something AT LAST to be DONE about this inhuman ordeal.

Everybody bitches about Mubarak being a raunchy dictator. Well. Clearly, he beats the living snot out of Netanyahu and company by way of humanitarianism.
