Perpetuating the myth while trying to condemn torture is: Just. Not. Helpful.

It scares me how much people ignore while putting out so much effort to do what criminals tell them is their job and trying to reconcile it with anything resembling virtue. It boils down to that old unwillingness to risk your paycheck being SO paramount in your mind that you will go to any length to uphold the most outrageous mental gymnastics that you think lead to an image of your virtue in the minds of everyone who will encounter you at the intersection of your misdeed and right now. It scares me that you have to be some kind of top performer, with a flashy education, to get into the FBI to begin with and somehow you still can be induced to ignore mountains of facts in this horrifically damaging pursuit.
