...was born 77 years ago, might very well be dead before 20 January 2009, let alone able to lead us out of Iraq and into a new age of intense work to scale back global carbon emissions to the degree necessary to reverse or even slow the manmade climate crisis that is upon us. I happen to think he's pretty cool. I love that he is real while the rest are fake. He's heavily in support of a harebrained idea about how to improve people power in America. For his supporters, here's an interview. If he can even manage to have a measurable influence on the dialog in this campaign, I will be shocked and pleased.

I gotta tell you, though, I'm sick to death of the complete disregard for true qualifications in support of candidates for office, any office, let alone president, that has infected the electorate. The Electoral College was conceived to guard against precisely this, but everybody seems to think the popular vote is good enough, despite the macabre picture when one looks at its track record. Even the most intelligent of us is trapped in the closed system of circular thinking, and it -- this one thing -- spells doom for humankind.
