the rub

Cold cash. When people are spit out of the economy, they mostly turn to organized religion, emphasis on "organized", to create for themselves the social nexus needed to reintegrate themselves into a living. If you are wondering why so many of the disenfranchised blue collar workers start voting themselves out of a living wage after being booted out of that living wage by the very people for whom they now vote, this is why. This is why religion is suddenly such a fat hairy deal again across the face of the globe, and so markedly in even the United States. No longer content to minister strictly to the spiritual exile of human being, there are much more pressing imperatives among the flocks just now: food, shelter, slices of the resource pie. This is ultimately capitalist. This is ultimately un-American. This is.
