forty years! the truth finally breaks for air

I have to think this means serious people are really waking up to the evil and doing something about it.

Nothing is more beautiful than the truth! Nothing.

[Getting very happy about this, I rounded the bend to watch Bill Moyers Journal. What a buzz kill... but the very last segment, about Amish Forgiveness made it all very worth it. Once again, I'm blubbering my face right off on my way to bed.]

Now, after a nice long sleep: I find Ray McGovern has done a good piece about it, and, skimming the comments, I find little snippets like
We are responsible for what we do, as they are for their actions.
and the little measuring gnome inside my head is going, noooooo, clearly not. The holocaust ends up being responsible for everything they do... and, if we're all finally paying attention, here, the Bible is inching in for equal time.

Last night, Bill Moyers' guests were making the point that people are starving for goodness in our capitalist society. Struth! They are, indeed. But humans are easily conditioned, easily led by words, appeals to the measuring gnomes inside their heads. And armies arise to bullhorn these gnomes into coöperation. It's as if there are massive computer and phone banks in huge complexes dotting the face of India, or Indiana, and thousands and thousands of employees sit at their stations every day with their scripts, their talking points memoranda, in front of them. Every day, in comments threads across the face of the globe, rage pitched battles over these points. Certain factions leaping to the fight on the blog posts that threaten their positions most. Not only does it insert the conditioning, but it also irks and/or confuses all would-be opposition into paralysis. Those who wouldn't be idealistically disposed to engage in this stuff will certainly do it for pay, and it's on. The contest for our souls is on. They sit at the desk in front of the cameras talking as if it lies in the future.

It is now.
