whimperer of state

"I think there was a huge gap between what she said and reality," said Rep. Henry Waxman, chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Why can't he just say she's lying?

Waxman, D-Calif., and other Democrats said they would not call on Rice to resign, noting that their frustration is with the Bush administration's policies rather than Rice alone.

No sense picking away at the trouble. Far better to just let it keep festering and killing.

"If you just change the deck chairs, it's not going to change the policy," said Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vt., a committee member.

He's right! As things stand, we can't even vote a decent person into Congress without them turning bad before their first term is halfway done.

The hearing gave Democrats the venue to hammer the administration on the war. Thus far, they have been unable to pass veto-proof legislation ordering troops home from Iraq.

Pfeh, "hammer the administration" my ass. Their hammers are wet noodles and all they will do is irk the administration. And they are unable to pass veto-proof legislation, but they are perfectly capable of not passing any legislation that funds the warmongering. Game over. But noooooooooooooo. That would anger the people who give them all their campaign money.

[By the way, I always try to watch these hearings to bring you observations that aren't covered elsewhere, besides my sick fascination with keeping up with this shit, and Rice has not, even yet, changed her obnoxious and obtuse determination to spout yimmering blather in response to the American people. The failure of Congress to induce preparedness for full, non-evasive and edifying testimony from administration officials, its failure even to sharpen their evasion skills after all this time, is such an outrage to my sensibilities that I was unable to endure more than a half hour of this hearing. It made my skin crawl and my organs trade places. It is deeply humiliating and exasperating to watch these clowns in action, ALL of them, from either side of the isle, and either side of the microphones.]
