olympia port militarization resistance

[click picture for Democracy Now! segment]
Phan Nguyen, spokesman for the local resistance movement seems to be making the rounds of the liberal antiwar media outlets, such as they are, and that guy is stoked. He's obviously pleased to pieces that his neighbors have come together to put their bodies in the way of military shipments through their port... notwithstanding the heavy assaults by local police... notwithstanding the police brutality. I heard him telling Scott Harris on the radio tonight that it has redoubled their determination. Some might have difficulty understanding his giddy tone, but I do not. Taking direct action and feeling the solidarity of your compatriots has got to be a huge relief... even if yer black and blue.

Transcript of Democracy Now! segment...

Audio with Scott Harris, starts in second hour, after two other interviews worth hearing....

And, of course, part of the reason he's so stoked is because they actually got a guy in the military to come over to their side.  Active duty!

I couldn't help using this picture again. It's so very expressive, and it was taken on the wet pavement of the Port of Olympia, and I keep dreaming of wearing that riot gear with the words PEACEFUL PROTESTER on the front and back... a little peace symbol to replace the helmet number... a canister of aerosol patchouli oil. I thought of making the suit in the tie-dye motif, but basic black is too much better....
