I took out four hours to endure Frontline's bit about *'s War last night. Except, they made it look at least as much Fudd's as *'s, but, no matter, it was a complete waste of my time, and so not up to any but maybe Fox's standard it wouldn't even do much to enlighten the dirt ignorant. I'm chuffed because it reminds me of that whole partisan bit about not impeaching, but keeping it clear to everyone that this was *'s war. Well. It isn't, and it never was. He had nothing to do with it.

It was four hours of outtakes from old Frontline pieces, and they make it out that the administration wanted out immediately from the cessation of major combat operations right up until the surge was announced. What a load of crap. I can believe they thought it was going to be a quick in and out job when they went for it, but things were too profitable to just walk away from and so they didn't. And, actually, it is moot whether they wanted out or not, because unseen actors wouldn't/won't let them pull out.

One thing this time did for me was to give me better insight into what's in charge. Paul Bremmer was not listening to them at all, and that had to be because there wasn't anything coherent to listen to. There was no leadership in Washington. There were only imperatives given by nameless others. That is just too clear. Way too many instances of these guys acting against all sense but that sense to believe differently now. A coup.

The weird part is that it didn't even have to be an organized coup. There comes a time when enough like-minded people in positions of privilege and power can make things happen as though they were acting in concert without ever even meeting each other. Like mentalities turn circumstances into like opportunities. I feel there is definitely a driving force, a cabal of overt actors having their way here, but that all of it isn't even attributable to them. On the one hand, everything that has happened since 20 January 2001 has been like it was being ticked off on a long heinous checklist, but on the other, there have been too many botched attempts that would thwart almost anybody, and yet they press on against them despite how beyond the pale these efforts really are.

Very obviously this has never been about terrorism or a bunch of much smarter protections would be in place. So what has it been about? It's been about looting the treasury and the American people, and, of course, oil. It's been about stripping its victims of any means for redress, any way to impede this. It has no party preference

Jerome Hauer [a Democrat, I think] and Larry Silverstein [a Republican, I think] might be better clues into who/what is running the show than anyone in the Project for a New American Century. That little think tank was never secret, was even hassling Clinton to get going on their dreams of Middle East domination. I don't think they planned 9/11. I think their urges just happened to suit those who did. I think the perpetrators made themselves clear to the administration that does not administrate, that leaves everyone working for it to their own devices and the performance of the will of any who seek to inject their wishes into whatever arm of government interests them. Guys like Karl Rove have a clear field to politicize the Justice Department and completely pervert elections. There's no one at the helm. There has been an unidentified ruthless cabal, and an entire political landscape of independent actors, all having their way with us since * took office.

That was clear before Frontline wasted four hours of my time, but at least there was some measure of further clarification to be gotten out of it if one tried hard enough.

[P.S. It's not like there aren't broad hints scattered everywhere! Who's buried at Grant's Tomb?]
