demoralized

The deal is: the Russians sent peacekeepers to protect separatists, the people who wanted to be Russian instead of Georgian, from the Georgian government. Georgia attacked these Russian peace-keepers, killing 20 or 30 of them, and Russia responded severely.

I hear stuff is being said on tv like, "Russia Invades Georgia" and things designed to make us think Russia is picking up where the USSR left off. Now I see it's also perfectly okay to show the mangled remains of the killed and the horrific plight of the wounded, since it is so inflammatory. It is verboten with the thousands of partial corpses and egregiously wounded Iraqis, but still okay in the instances where we want the populace to revile the combatants.

Then there is the feeding frenzy over the Edwards debacle to keep us busy while they get away with suiciding a patsy to hang the anthrax letters on, the whole matter just drying up and going away, and while there is now testimony hanging the forgery of documents to implicate Iraq in 9/11 on the Vice President, while Israel continues its six decades of barely checked brutality against Palestine... all so soon on the heels of reading Making It, by Ryan Lizza in The New Yorker, catching a glimpse of how short on substance and long on politics has been Barack Obama's career. That piece made me feel pretty good about his overall competence, but pretty badly about his character.... Dudes, Bubba has been completely outclassed. No wonder he hates him!

So. I'm demoralized.

I was serious when I mentioned thinking about just making up the news, going off into my own little world.
