radiation poisoning is so radically unfun

Even when something radioactive is too weak to penetrate your skin, you breathe the radiation from it when you are near it, and it kills you. When something is called radioactive it means that little deadly particles or ions radiate off it and ionize the medium through which it passes... turns your flesh to soup. Even when weakly radioactive, prolonged proximity to it means mutated gametes and cancer and death... depending.

But you know all this, right?
