This would also be about helping retaliate if Israel [or the United States] attacks Iran and/or Syria. They don't want the America-friendly powers in Lebanon undercutting them.

I don't think they'll stand down until Obama is in office, and if he doesn't make it, they'd be crazy to let down their guard.
