only one way it plays out

Obama's long commercial set me into a contemplative mode. And a visit to HuffPo has me pretty sure he's close to God, that we gotta have it. I don't think we will brook another stolen election....

It was those two little lines -- I am my brothers' keeper. I am my sisters' keeper. -- at his 2004 convention speech that nailed my ass at the time. And they nailed my ass again a thousand times harder the other night watching a documentary that showed the clip of him doing that. My face exploded. Tears and snot shot onto the monitor as they took me back to the precise moment I first heard him say them.

I thoroughly deplore the "compromises" he's made to get here, but there is still a little ember of hope in me that he meant those lines, that he will live up to them, that he will live up to the oceans of good will they bought him.

Even if we're still afraid from having our real live heroes murdered right in front of our eyes, it doesn't feel to me as though we'll take it this time... of course, that's me, and, [quoth Wolcott again] despite my extraordinary empathy and gift for rapport, my "people skills" are a bit rusty, having never been used.
