Read Kara Kush, by Idries Shah, and you will find out that the northern supply routes they seek to replace the trainwreck at the Khyber Pass are just as easily and avidly demolished by mujahideen as it is. The Afghans might not have much of a country left to brag about, but, short of nuking the entire place, no one is going to defeat them. No one, that is, except maybe themselves.
I don't know, maybe the Taliban would have been forced out of power by the Afghani people by now if we'd stayed the hell out of it. I have a problem with this damn occupation because I thought the United Nations should have gone in and ousted the fuckers and devoted all its attention to making a new and humane government as strong and stable as possibly could be long before the pigs in Washington decided it was the perfect place to hit in "retaliation" for their own perfidies on 9/11... pipeline profits being what they were/are....
But, I'm here to tell you, someone with some real brains better come up with a better plan or our defeat will be more ignominious than the Soviets' was... and we will have deserved it.
