Others have used the word "pusillanimity" and I'm glad it didn't die out with William F. Buckley, Jr. It's apt, goddammit. We can have all kinds of hope that he does lots of great things, but he's starting out in a downright "chickenshit" -- to use a logger term of art -- manner as regards the Middle East.

What's the sense in any of the stuff we do if we can't be doing it on the basis of the fundamentally real? Abbas is NOT the President of Palistine. That's just ONE of the many unreal considerations in Obama's first moves. This is not how effectiveness is achieved. This is not how effectiveness is achieved. This is NOT how effectiveness is achieved.
