Far as I can tell there is no down side to cleaning up the planet. Whatever costs come of it will not be more than the costs for energy now. They can't be. And so Dyson's argument for the Chinese need of coal falls flatter than a pancake with me. Maybe especially in China, where whatever they want they can make happen by fiat alone. No money need be involved. The poles may be moving. The planet might be able to compensate. It all might be paranoid delusions. Anything is possible. But there can be no doubt that conservation and cleanup are good things, no matter what. When already there are cities where the air will not clear despite huge sustained-for-months efforts, truly, no matter what, it has to be fixed.
