Pheh. It's too psychotic to be borne, no matter what he said, and what he said always turns out to be nothing even nearly as horrible as it's made out to be... so... well, maybe this time it was. How do I know? Probably not. Seriously. Probably not.
On today's Democracy Now (4-24), at the end of the news summary piece on "Holocaust Memorial Speakers Back Attacking Iran," Amy stated that "The Israeli government and its supporters have accused Ahmadinejad of inciting genocide over a mistranslated 2005 speech." Too bad they can't just borrow a play from Emily Litella and say "Oh, never mind!"

Yes, indeed. He'd been quoting Khomeini about nations and empires disappearing from the pages of history, by way of reminding people that Israel is not forever, just as so many other nations and empires have evaporated throughout history, and it got turned into him threatening to wipe Israel off the map. I don't think that was an accidental mistranslation.
ReplyDeleteI have taken the time to listen to everything he has said that is translated, not just read it, but to be able to hear his tone and see his expression while talking, and I have listened extremely closely, multiple times and for many hours. He is a very level-headed and decent speaker, and I see evidence of a deep, not at all superficial, regard for spiritual matters. How they have managed to exploit our ignorance to turn him into some sort of fiend is just breathtaking... unspeakably evil.
It's just boggling how many lies you unearth when you take the time to look deeply into things. So I'm really, really very glad to hear that Amy mentioned that he was mistranslated. The fuckers on 60 Minutes should take a page from her book.
