  1. I love the original so much I don't know if I want to see this version!

  2. It's worth it to catch Cleese, however fleetingly, but, damn, it could have been at least fifty times better, and so seriously SHOULD HAVE BEEN.

  3. I have not seen this one and probably won't. Even my 13 year old neighbor said it sucks compared to the original.

I saw an ad for the DVD on TV. They've packaged it with a DVD of the original. It must be pretty bad if they're having to do that to get people to buy it.

  4. The message was impeccable and the acting didn't suck, but they packaged it too much like they're doing with the Bond films. No character development; nuance completely beyond their ken; wasted moments on jerky little morality visual commentary; oh, a thousand things. But I wish people would see it just to get the couple vital points it bungled with so much spectacle and waste of good actors. I know many people would have been bored by a more in-depth discussion between the Nobel Laureate played by Cleese and the alien played by Reeves, but I certainly would have given a lot for it. I did like that they didn't create a sappy little condescension between Reeves and Connelly. That was a nice touch.

  5. Do you really think it compares well with the original?

  6. No. I really think it compares well with a recent Bond film. I like that there wasn't that fucking condescension toward the woman which is too fucking stupid to bear, but it doesn't compare at all with the original. Gort was turned into G.O.R.T. There was no "Gort, Klaatu barada nikto." There were no flying saucers. The message was good, if delivered poorly.

  7. The allegorical nature of the original would probably be lost on today's audience.

  8. I just saw a good movie: Forgetting Sarah Marshall. It was a very smart comedy. I haven't laughed my ass off at a new movie like this in a long time! Extremely funny and smart. I highly recommend it.

  9. Also, I just saw for about the 12th time, one of my all time favorite movies: Last of the Mohicans. Ever seen it? Excellent!
