I might have skipped it if Cate Blanchett were not in it. Brad Pitt probably won't ruin it. He usually doesn't. But he doesn't usually make a movie either... whereas Cate doesn't miss. So. I'm hoping this deserved all the attention it got.
I'll try to let you know when it's over, but Blogger is planning to go down in a little while and I don't know if it'll be minutes or hours.

Pretty good story. The special effects guys were better at makeup than the makeup guys, but the makeup guys were pretty damn good. It was more fascinating than a good movie. Cate Blanchett seemed much closer to death in the beginning of the movie than she did in the hospital scenes through the rest of it, including the end, but she's the reason you care about it very much.

so did you like it?????!!!
ReplyDeleteI read the story when I was 8. And loved it. The movie was a big disappointment for me. BECAUSE of Brad Pitt. Did he have to swoon like that on the boat and bear his chest? It was too reminiscent of a corny Hollywood heart-throb then a man whose life was disappearing right before his eyes in the opposite direction.
I didn't think there was much chemistry between him and Cate either. Her presence is much too strong for a wimp like him.
I never read the book, so I didn't have that to disappoint me. I agree about using Brad and Cate. No chemistry and he's just too smooth. I think he's going for the Richard Gere disappearing into naturalness thing, but he isn't there for the emotions then, where Gere certainly is.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of work that must have been!
It was certainly able to take one out of one's own space and into that Curious Case. Half the time I put the screen on half size and play solitaire while movies are playing. I didn't want to do that in this one.
