Abolish NATO

No one has to "marry" anyone else politically; no one has to embrace every tenet or belief that an anti-imperialist ally might hold. You simply have to say: "All of us, regardless of our other views, believe this truth to be self-evident: dismantling the empire will bring immediate and enormous benefits to our nation and to the world."

If in your travels you meet the Buddha, throw him through your tv set.

I've found that culture, however useful and important, is neither the foundation nor the ceiling of human experience, even if it is commonly used for walls.

I really consider President and Mrs. Mubarak to be friends of my family. So I hope to see him often here in Egypt and in the United States. —Hillary Clinton

ReplyDeleteHave you heard Baker Gurvitz Army?

You know, there were always big fights between Jack Bruce and Steal Your Woman Clapton, and not even Steve Winwood could break their bullshit. Everybody was sure Ginger Baker would be dead of a drug overdose any minute, but sometimes I think HE was responsible for ALL of their early successes. I've never loved anything by Clapton since, for instance, and I always liked it better when Jack Bruce sang, until Winwood showed up and I went batshit crazy for everything he did. Baker sort of got left out of it, even as he may have been the very soul of it.
ReplyDeleteOh, so you're gonna be a tough guy, huh?
ReplyDeleteWhy... I oughta.... :-P
In college at WSU Steven's Point Cream came to play. I was working the sound and light board in the college's production of Max Frisch's play "The Firebugs" and was unable to go. My two assistants however did skip out to go to the show. This left me all alone in the upper reaches of the stage, unable to see what was going on on stage. One assistant was to view the action and signal me when to hit the tape recorder for the sound effects and the other assistant was to control the light board while I was working the sound. There were a number of missed cues and other snafus that night.
ReplyDeleteThe main miscue was the fact that Cream's equipment showed up, but the band ended up in Milwaukee, about 150 miles away.
I forget if they took a taxi or how exactly they were transported, but they seemed to have hit every bar on the way and reports back from the show were that they were so drunk they could hardly perform.
Indeed, when I first heard of Baker Gurvitz army I was surprised as I thought for sure Ginger would have been dead from amphetamine poisoning by that time.
