99, I saw the recount on TV. HOURS of it. Way before the fucker Pitney had it in his toilet bowl along with the rest of the profanity he puts in there. The stuff about the same handwriting is bullshit (although, in the images the website you linked to provides the first two writings are the exact same handwriting, but I didn't see that stuff on TV, so I don't really care).
I have voted in EVERY ELECTION since I was 16. Parliamentary, city councils, expediencey council, presidential ... in at leat five Iranian provinces. There is always someone watching over the voting box and they never let you throw in your paper without folding it TWICE. That's a UNIVERSAL rule in Iran. The only people who don't follow it are the ones who are filmed voting (the leader, the president, etc, as you can also see in those pictures. They only fold it once)I checked with all sorts of family members in various provinces and they said it was no different this time. It was no different at the embassy here. I also linked to the minister who spoke on TV last week and said that "any ballot that is not folded is fraudulent" and he goes on to explain why. That is coming from an Ahmadinejad minister, not me.
But some of the ballots they showed on TV had no folds.
The recount wasn't an issue anyways. To me, the entire thing was more whimsical than anything. They had been honest and RANDOMLY recounted ballots - even the fraudulent ones.
I'm struck by the supposed lack of transparency thing everyone's bitching about, and yet there are all these pictures of the ballots and the people counting them, and all these globally published tally sheets, and a fucking fantastically fair random recount of 10% of the ballots.
Those kinds of recounts, common here, are rarely random, though they HAVE to be in order to be fair. And I don't believe we have EVER had a national level recount of any percentage. Democracy is in better shape in Iran than it has been here for decades and decades.
They're only obsessed with them when they want to rig them or when they want to make them look rigged so they can make that government look like shitheads. They only care when it furthers their ability to control the planet's wealth. Only.

The morons in Washington are pushing the envelope of nuclear war. The insane drive for American hegemony threatens life on earth. The American people, by accepting the lies and deceptions of “their” government, are facilitating this outcome. —Paul Craig Roberts
I am a child of the South. Janet Napolitano tells me I need to be afraid of people who are labeled white supremacists but I was raised around white supremacists. I am not afraid of white supremacists. I am concerned about my own government. The Patriot Act did not come from the white supremacists, it came from the White House and Congress. Citizens United did not come from white supremacists, it came from the Supreme Court. —Cynthia McKinney
No one has to "marry" anyone else politically; no one has to embrace every tenet or belief that an anti-imperialist ally might hold. You simply have to say: "All of us, regardless of our other views, believe this truth to be self-evident: dismantling the empire will bring immediate and enormous benefits to our nation and to the world." —Chris Floyd
The power of the people on top depends on the obedience of the people below. —Howard Zinn

Obama's performance on the foreclosure crisis—along with unemployment, the biggest problem America faces—makes Bush's laissez faire approach to Hurricane Katrina look caring and loving in comparison. If ever there were a cause for impeachment, look no further. —Ted Rall
As self-appointed champions of civilisation against barbarism, they fail to see that a certain barbarism is the flipside of civilisation itself, inseparable from its smooth operation. For every cathedral, a pit of bones; for every artistic masterpiece, human wretchedness and back-breaking toil. —Terry Eagleton
Here at home and throughout the world people are fighting back against the forces of wealth, privilege, and militarism — some because they have no choice, others because they would choose no other course but the one that leads to peace and justice. —Michael Parenti

The bigger question is: why is our media obsessed with other country's elections, and not our own?
