There ARE decent judges around. I think we will find that any man who was detained, even under these circumstances, will seek to know who was really responsible and will forgive Americans who are the most cleverly propagandized people EVER.
I think you are right! I think the Iranian government has acted with amazing restraint and gone much further to show fairness in this uproar than any Western government ever would have.
I have been upset that our media has not been covering the fact that the arrests that were made were against people who were rioting, destroying property, attacking the police, etc., committing actual crimes, not just picking them up for being in the protests. 20 dead is nothing to take lightly, but considering that some of those twenty were killed to create more uprising and others in the course of attacking the police, the death toll is amazingly low too.
I'm grateful every day that the Iranian people don't seem inclined to blame the American people, but I'm a little unnerved that too many of them don't really even blame our government either! They won't take our word for how bad it is in certain vital aspects, won't take even solid bits of evidence.
I see a lot of times that they seem shocked, more shocked even than we are, when we do un-American stuff. They have more faith in our justice system than we do, more faith in the myth of Rule of Law than we do, than is warranted anymore.
This has been such an intensely dangerous episode, and I am more relieved than I can possibly express that Russia has made an overt move to show solidarity with Iran. It has eased my mounting fears of World War III considerably. We're still not out of the woods, but we now have a chance, a clear shot at working this out without a global conflagration.
Well, crikey, I guess it would have helped if I had more coffee in me when I responded to you... my mind was still on the posts before this one... the trials of the protesters and the arrests of the Americans in Iran....
So, yes, anyway, you have a good point on THIS subject, too.

The morons in Washington are pushing the envelope of nuclear war. The insane drive for American hegemony threatens life on earth. The American people, by accepting the lies and deceptions of “their” government, are facilitating this outcome. —Paul Craig Roberts
I am a child of the South. Janet Napolitano tells me I need to be afraid of people who are labeled white supremacists but I was raised around white supremacists. I am not afraid of white supremacists. I am concerned about my own government. The Patriot Act did not come from the white supremacists, it came from the White House and Congress. Citizens United did not come from white supremacists, it came from the Supreme Court. —Cynthia McKinney
No one has to "marry" anyone else politically; no one has to embrace every tenet or belief that an anti-imperialist ally might hold. You simply have to say: "All of us, regardless of our other views, believe this truth to be self-evident: dismantling the empire will bring immediate and enormous benefits to our nation and to the world." —Chris Floyd

Obama's performance on the foreclosure crisis—along with unemployment, the biggest problem America faces—makes Bush's laissez faire approach to Hurricane Katrina look caring and loving in comparison. If ever there were a cause for impeachment, look no further. —Ted Rall
As self-appointed champions of civilisation against barbarism, they fail to see that a certain barbarism is the flipside of civilisation itself, inseparable from its smooth operation. For every cathedral, a pit of bones; for every artistic masterpiece, human wretchedness and back-breaking toil. —Terry Eagleton
Here at home and throughout the world people are fighting back against the forces of wealth, privilege, and militarism — some because they have no choice, others because they would choose no other course but the one that leads to peace and justice. —Michael Parenti
