We have a live streaming U2 concert starting NOW....

[Looks like the music will start at 9pm, Pacific.]

========================================

It's midnight now, and I've got the renetcast playing in the background. It was pretty damn cool to have a U2 concert free for everybody in the world. I still don't think they've ever done a better concert than the one they did for free in the square at San Francisco's Embarcadero Center... the one where MAYOR Dianne Feinstein went postal because Bono spray painted the "artwork"... that would have been the Joshua Tree tour... some severely many moons ago. I went to the expensive one in Oakland the next night and was disappointed. The problem is that you have to have God on the sound board for outdoor venues and, well, even He has to hold his tongue just right.

What I'm driving at, here, is I don't think the sound came across very well. I always wish Bono would dim down to a trickle and that they'd turn The Edge all the way up to eleven. So I'm not the perfect person to talk about it in the best of times, but I think between all the running around and global causes to mention and Bono being such a slouch about what he does with the lyrics... well... he's not trying anymore... and, so, uhm, well, it wasn't stellar. The Edge was. But they didn't mix him up high enough through most of it.

I am, however, listening to it all over again, so... it didn't suck either... except for the really stupid part where Bono puts on this laser-studded leather jacket and grabs this hokey microphone thing that he can swing from... that was seriously dumb. This was/is being watched on all seven continents and the International Space Station, from whom we hear in the midst of the concert, and that was darn cool....

Who knows, maybe YouTube didn't broadcast it in high quality... certainly not very high volume... and it was a lot better than I could tell from here. I sure didn't miss the stream dropping every time too many people tried to grab on. That was great.

    My thoughts exactly! Joshua Tree era stuff was so superior.

    Thank God I missed the laser jacket microphone swinging bit! Saw that on SNL the day before and was still wondering What the Fuck was that?!
