set me off remembering

... and broke my heart when it ended so abruptly.... Kind of like John did... too abruptly for a lot of us.

I would mostly hear him wafting out of KMPX in my high school sweetheart's basement bedroom, but I would see him around a lot because he was friends with some of my friends. He was a fantastic guitarist. I saw him play a few times, once at the auditorium right across the street from the theater where Robin Williams gave me my own special command performance, AND the field where me and my friend would race our ponies wrapped in sheets, ghosts, in the middle of the night when we were way too young to be out that late....

You've got to pick up every stitch....

  1. Yeah, John C died abruptly, but he shouldn't have driven off to ditch his stash after he hit Ray.

  2. Ray probably wouldn't have done that... but... well... complications, complications....

  4. I came to post the following, looked for the appropriate place to do so and lo and behold there was the crow picture:

I'm jazzed! Last night I was outside at dusk and sensed something overhead. Looking up I saw a flock of at least 100 crows coming overhead. Then a second and a third with a bunch of single stragglers following behind.

I hadn't experienced that scene since the first year the West Nile virus showed up in the area.

Crows and California Magpies were particularly susceptible to the virus and it took a heavy toll on the populations. This spring was the first time I had seen more than two magpies at a given time, they used to fill the trees.
The crows would come overhead at dusk every evening, heading to a favorite roosting tree for the night. Sometimes flock after flock, other times long rivers of birds.

It is great to see their populations rebounding!
    :) :)

  7. Thanks for that, 99! I loved that band. Just give another listen to What About Me? and share with me my astonishment that no one seems to have heard that most prescient message. Pity. Talk about dropping stitches...
