MONTREAL — Canadian police say it was wrong for one of their officers to whisk Halle Berry, her model boyfriend and baby through airport security.
Police Inspector Jimmy Cacchione said it was the personal initiative of one officer and not something the department supported.
Quebec journalist Marieve Paradis said on her blog Friday, she spotted Berry, her partner, Canadian model Gabriel Aubry, and their child, being led to the front of the security line at a Montreal airport Monday, while other passengers waited more than an hour.
The officer will not be reprimanded and the police airport unit will institute stricter rules for the future, Cacchione added.
This shouldn't surprise anyone. Movie stars have always received preferential treatment.
ReplyDeleteWell, actually, I remember Mel Brooks and Anne Bancroft, standing around the baggage carousel with the rest of us. I remember a lot of movie stars in decidedly non-preferential treatment situations. I know they have always been seen as somehow superior, but usually they would downplay it to whatever extent possible so as not to seem vain and piggish. In fascist states, though, there is marked disinhibition about this stuff. It becomes exaggerated, and even flaunted, and I think this Halle Berry incident is a perfect example of that. Anyone in the rabble is a potential terrorist, who must suffer for the security of the state, but not a member of the élite. People say the onset of fascism in Germany wasn't any more readily apparent to the population back then than it is now....
