I am getting so sick of people talking as though our government isn't really broken, just needing to do what it BLATANTLY will never do without serious force being applied... and, obviously, oh, OBVIOUSLY, just insanely too obviously for years and years, we're not talking votes. We're not even talking replacing the perps because the replacements become perps immediately. Isn't it clear to Reich the Democrats are NOT trying to regulate or reform Wall Street? They are, for the thousandth time, formulating legislation that will make it seem to everyone who wants to be deceived that they are trying to fix this mess they absolutely LOVE having us in.

If Washington knew what was good for it and the nation, it would sever its financial connections with the Street. Better yet, it would enact legislation seeking to limit the impact of private and corporate money in politics. That goal is made more difficult to achieve by the grotesque recent Supreme Court decision (Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission) holding that corporations, including financial firms, have the right to spend unlimited amounts on political campaigns. But there are ways around this, such as more generous public funding for candidates that choose not to take private contributions. Hopefully as well, the president will nominate Supreme Court justices who understand the importance of public trust in democratic institutions, and the difference between companies and people.

Fuck. How long have we heard this shit? Washington knows PERFECTLY well what's good for it and it is DOING it.

Fuck. It's NEVER going to actually DO any of this. THAT IS CLEAR, AND HAS BEEN FOR DECADES. If you buck them they marginalize you, and throw money at ousting you from office. If that doesn't work, they Wellstone you. But they really don't have to go this far very often anymore. The perks for just giving up your morals and playing along are too enticing, and the EXCUSES you can give for it are also too enticing. This criminality has risen to an art form. It's 100% effective. If any adult, any one who has given up nursery rhymes and joined those who did not leave their inner child in charge, had ANY doubt of this before, Obama's "change we can believe in" performance has erased it.

OUR GOVERNMENT IS BROKEN.

Wake the fuck up.
