Yes, they were trumpeting how many new jobs there were - mostly census workers who will be out of work in another month or so!

And of course, those who haven't found jobs and have run out of benefits, have simply vanished from the calculations!

Temporary part-time jobs should not even be counted. Census work won't generate enough to qualify for unemployment. So the hiring raises the number of employed, but layoffs won't be reflected in the unemployment numbers.

I saw a letter from someone the other day. He had been laid off and was on unemployment, taking home enough to barely scape by. He ended up taking a temporary part time job which lasted several months before he was once again laid off. When he went to restart his unemployment the reset the amount to the new temporary part time job.

He was questioning why he didn't just sit home and do no work as he would be better off financially.
