No one has to "marry" anyone else politically; no one has to embrace every tenet or belief that an anti-imperialist ally might hold. You simply have to say: "All of us, regardless of our other views, believe this truth to be self-evident: dismantling the empire will bring immediate and enormous benefits to our nation and to the world."

If in your travels you meet the Buddha, throw him through your tv set.

I've found that culture, however useful and important, is neither the foundation nor the ceiling of human experience, even if it is commonly used for walls.

I really consider President and Mrs. Mubarak to be friends of my family. So I hope to see him often here in Egypt and in the United States. —Hillary Clinton

More aggravating than Obama?
ReplyDeleteHeh... FAR more aggravating... Obama doesn't give 'em a lick of trouble.
ReplyDeleteOh, I was thinking aggravating to me.
ReplyDeleteAs long as he keeps the heroin money flowing, his bosses will tolerate him. If he gets greedy like Noriega did, they'll replace him.
I don't think Noriega EVER aggravated them as much as Karzai has. He does it so vividly publicly that they can't retaliate. Bet he's gotten a thousand times more out of them than Noriega ever did, too. We had a vestigial press in Noriega's day... and the population hadn't been anywhere near this psychedelicized into brute unconsciousness. Noriega is probably green with envy.
ReplyDeleteIf he interferes with profits, he'll be removed.
ReplyDeleteIndeed, but I don't think there's the unanimity of profiting: [1] the focus is not on the drugs for black budgets and greasing officials, even though billions are made there; [2] the focus is on getting gas and oil out of places nearby and holding the pipelines; [3] they want rock solid bases against Iran and formerly Soviet states... essentially giving Karzai much more room to drive them nuts along the way.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention how this cramps China and keeps Burma in line from drastically cutting into their former monopoly on poppy dollars.
Basically, the PR and political faction have to be screaming for his ouster, but the plutocrats are fine with it.
ReplyDeleteMakes Obama look even worse, too.
ReplyDeleteThey'll pay him lots more and put up with or even like much more shit from him than with Noriega.
