my birthday present to myself

I got me a Magic Mouse. I'd hoped it to replace my Mighty Mouse, but... at least so far... does not have the functionality of the Mighty Mouse. The Magic Mouse, however, makes scrolling SO magnificently smooth, and invulnerably dependable, that you end up not minding at all that you might have to use it as adjunct to your Mighty Mouse, instead of replacing it. Mac-tude will go the way of all things soon, I'm sure, but I want to wring every drop of love out of it before it slips into the lake of bile that is consumerism on Planet Earth... which is to say: Steve Jobs is unfortunately NOT immortal.

  1. I'm just fine with a regular old mouse. It's attached to my computer with a handy security cable so I won't lose it if Buddy knocks it off the desk. :)

  2. Oh, you have not experienced the downright sex-like experience of the Magic Mouse. OMG!!!!!! Billy's iMac came with it. He bought his about a month after I got mine. I tried it last time I was there and went bonkers for the sucker. There might be some way to program it to do everything the Mighty Mouse does, but it's not readily apparent. So, for now, I'm using two mice. The scrolling is just TRANSCENDENTAL!

Peggy won't use the Mighty Mouse because she says it's "too much like a clitoris".... Her words! NOT mine! :o]

  3. That is *such* a great straight line, but I'll resist.

I'll wait for the Mental Mouse. Not only wireless, but handless.

  4. I just got finished mentioning that if it gets much better than this I'll have to reconsider my position on being implanted with a chip.....

  5. You can do this thing like thrumming your fingers on it and the page just scrolls away silently, no ratchetiness, no hassles, no cleaning of track balls, no bullshit. Total bliss. It is powered by a basic AA battery, does not wear down for a very, very long time, and bipbam a fresh battery goes in and yer back in scrolling heaven again.

I just don't know how to make it do what the squeeze does on the older model or to get the dashboard straight up from it either. So. Fine. I can keep the other mouse plugged in and just use this one for the running around part. It is THAT far superior.

  6. I guess Steve has something there...

Two mice on a PC just fight each other and die!

  7. I've never used the squeeze thing and as often as not, I scroll with the up and down keys. I loved the change to an optical mouse w/no button and am that's as advanced as I need. It's like with these gizmo-laden new cars. I have no use for most of the cool new features they keep adding.

  8. Billy likes to fuck with me while I'm using his Magic Mouse to show him how to do something on his iMac. I'm flying around on the screen and then he moves his other mouse on me and I'm starting to freak... until I remember who's sitting right there with his hand on his hardwired mouse....

David. You don't want to try this because yer aversion to newfangled will drop immediately into the nether world and you won't want to live without it. It's imperfect... or my knowledge of it is imperfect... but even so, the scrolling is SO transcendental that you don't care. You can make it right click, which is the most important thing, and I hope they make it so you can get all the windows to display at once and click on the one you want to bring to the front, plus the action "clitoris" scroller that works as a button to bring up the dashboard on the Mighty Mouse, but, damn, I honestly don't mind going to the other mouse for that, this is SO cool.

  9. Now I know why those really old mice without the scroll wheel feel so odd - they're male mice!

  10. Ha ha! Mighty. Comparison. You can see why Peggy says that.

But the scrolling sucks on the Mighty Mouse. It does way more, but the scrolling sucks. When it works right it does everything in every direction, but it gums up seriously easily and you have to keep fiddling with it to get the scrolling to work. Sometimes nothing works until it just FEELS like functioning again. Not so with the Magic Mouse. Impeccable. OUTRAGEOUS!

  11. http://www.logitech.com/en-us/473/340?WT.z_sp=Image

    $20 + $5 shipping from South Korea.

I have one already, and bought a new on.

This mouse blows all other mice away. It has 6 buttons.

The two extra buttons for thumb and third finger make going forward and backward page browsing a treat! Massive productivity!

But that's why they logitech doesn't make it any more, it's TOO PERFECT.

    Wanna talk keyboards?

    Beat this one.

    BTC 6300CL

Yeah, they're listed as out of stock everywhere now, (I want a new one) I have two, I use parts from one on the other sadly now. It's thinner than most cell phones, and most importantly, it doesn't mess with my hand hurting anymore.

I see it's offered as a $150 keyboard now. But out of stock.

Call me pissed, but I'd still pay even $150 for a new one!
