I should maybe go to bed.
As the wave of [pushbutton revolutions] has spread across the Arab world, a flurry of articles have appeared suggesting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez could be the next “dictator” to be overthrown.

Such arguments follow a pattern in the corporate media of slandering the Chavez government and the revolutionary process it leads.

They aim to conceal the real threat that haunts imperialism: that the Arab world may follow the example of Venezuela and other countries in Latin America — and break away from Western hegemony.

Particularly cynical were the comments by British foreign secretary William Hague, who falsely alleged Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi had fled to Venezuela on February 21. This triggered a spate of headlines tying “Venezuela” and “Libya” together — despite the fact the allegation was untrue.

A February 2 editorial by the Miami Herald claimed: “With dictators toppling like dominoes across the Middle East, Venezuela’s president-for-life, Hugo Chavez, is signaling worry about his own despotic rule.”

The article ignores the fact that Chavez was overwhelmingly elected as president in three elections supervised by numerous international observers. All up, pro-Chavez forces have won more than a dozen national elections, all verified as free and fair, since 1998.

With new elections set for 2012, Chavez maintains more than 50% support — even in polls commissioned by the US-funded opposition.
This can't be going to improve.

  1. updates from my wife:

update: sounds like they won't let anyone in cap unless they have an appointment with a gov official. Also, walker says no use of copier/fax machines for dems! and he went to a blogger's church to talk/intimidate members! some say they need food, others say a pizza arrived, etc. so not sure. no sleeping bags allowed in. Supposedly cops will slowly corner and starve them out - not sure if they are waivering now with pressure from walker of new rules for protestors. So all is tense.

a bit more news: ACLU lawyer is working with MPD cheif - it is illegal to ban people from capitol - doors still not open - people are pissed and gathering outside capitol. Not sure if they can get food in. Sounds like the same activists are still inside. Danny Glover joins movement in Indiana! Faith leaders are getting more involved on our side.

from twitter: need as many people as possible at capitol now even if just outside. talk of making a "tent city". walker gets booed out of a madison resteraunt! hard for me to pull away from twitters

  6. No No - it didn't matter what I was trying to paste or where I copied it from. The right click menu had the copy and paste commands grayed out and neither cntrl/c nor cntrl/v would work either.

It is now functioning properly again. Some weird glitch at that point in time.

  7. Actually, I think everything in Google's orbit is malfunctioning today. They must have a server farm or two down. EVERYTHING is acting weird.

  8. I see where Google dropped quite a few emails from peoples on-line accounts.

That's why I download all my emails instead of trusting Google's server to keep all my stuff.
I have it set up to transfer to Thunderbird. I never have to go to Google, it's all automatic.
