how could you have known?

.

Two days ago, I was convinced the Japan quake had already happened and that a tsunami warning was out. I was having my own emergency, and wasn't going to let a tsunami stop me. So I left you with, "Please let me know if the tsunami's coming to get me or Norway nukes Madagascar or the entire government suddenly drops from space rays... or whatever....." I had meant for you to understand by this that I wasn't going to worry about the tsunami... or anything else. Except, the 8.9 quake and resulting tsunami warnings didn't happen until late last night.

When I saw it last night I thought al Jazeera and YouTube were taking things seriously awfully late in the game. I clicked on the link for the live coverage from AJ and still it didn't register that it had just happened. I thought they were covering the aftermath and went to check the blather about tsunamis and any warnings at NOAA, and there didn't seem to be any where I thought they should be, confirming somehow that whatever they were on about was just the horrific aftermath of a two-day-old monster quake.

Maybe I've caught up on my sleep now because I seem to grok that this all took place last night, and NOT two nights ago, except, well, except now I'm vexed that I had thought it had already happened. There wasn't anything precognitive about it. It was over, except possibly for a tsunami hitting here, two days before it happened. Do you think that extreme nerve pain drives one into one's true mind? Or is this just more of my weirdness manifesting? I mean, I can't even get too het up about this because this sort of thing has happened to me often in my life, but I wasn't being callous about it! I was just in such bad shape I couldn't deal with it.

My tooth still hurts. It's much better, but it still hurts enough to gripe about.

.

Whenever it happened, Japan got NAILED.

Sounds as though Crescent City, about fifteen miles south of me has been damaged by some swells. Calls were not coming through. My mom said in an email the operator told her all circuits were busy. I haven't heard any blasts of the tsunami warning system going off, but BB2 says bigger waves/swells are on their way. I'll just lash myself to a tree and hope for the best.

.

See, this is what I thought was going to be happening the day I had to go down to Crescent City to see the dentist, but it happened this morning and I was oblivious.
Eight-foot waves from the Japan tsunami destroyed much of Crescent City harbor, battered boats, closed the 101 Freeway and left one person missing.

KDRV-TV reported that four people were washed out to sea Friday. Three were hurt and one is feared dead.

Local residents reported that about three dozen boats were "crushed" in the harbor and that surging waters significantly damaged or destroyed most of the docks. Ocean water surging up Elk Creek north of the harbor reportedly lapped up to front doors of the community's cultural center.

The Associated Press reported that the Coast Guard was searching for a man swept out to sea while taking pictures of the tsunami.

Officials were warning residents to expect higher surges throughout the day, one resident said by telephone. Officials from the Sheriff's Department and the city could not be reached. Crescent City, near the Oregon border, was the scene of a devastating tsunami in 1964 which killed 11 people and destroyed 289 homes and businesses.
Maybe it pushed the rain out. It's supposed to be pouring right now, but the sky is blue.

.

The dead clown down at the mouth of the Klamath was almost certainly a tourist. Two of his buddies made it back to safety, which means they were way the heck out on the rocks that jut up out of the surf, and people with ANY experience of the ocean don't ever do that, EVEN with no tsunami warnings. Even on calm days, a big one can come up at any moment and smack you into your next life before you know what hit you.

Seems videos of the phenomenon are hitting YouTube now.

.

Slate is being pretty snarky about it. Guy's probably dying of envy over all the natural beauty here... OR one of those twits who regularly endures twisters ripping up his neighborhood and thunderstorms making his TV blow up, talking about how one has to be crazy to live in California....

.

Something's afoot, that's all I know. It feels unutterably weird around here just now. I'm missing most of my marbles, and my cogs have slipped. Nothing feels right.

.

And, just north of me is Brookings, Oregon. They're not any better off than they are down in Crescent City. So. I think if I need to get out of here, I can take the back road that cuts over to 199. That bumps into Interstate 5 and I don't think there's any snow on the pass right now....

.

Still, nothing like the Boxing Day tsunami, where people were caught by surprise. Scary, scary, scary to watch how slow-to-stopped people's reaction times were, even at that. I remember hearing that those who had the sense to immediately run lived, but those who needed time to put it together before they started running didn't make it.

.

For all my friends interested in my doctoral work, here's Farrell talking manmade quake....

.

I guess THIS would be the definitive footage of the ocean at Crescent City today.

  1. I thought you were referencing the fault off of Oregon and Washington.

When that one goes it will make the waves here today seem like mere ripples in a puddle!

  2. I guess I slept through the waves because Mom says she couldn't get through, that the operator said all the lines were busy. I didn't hear any tsunami sirens. So I guess I lived. Mind you, I'm not sure....

  3. The last I heard, about an hour ago, the biggest waves are yet to come. The ones that tore up the Santa Cruz and Crescent city marinas were 3 - 3.5 feet high, they are expecting ones 6 feet high within the next ten hours.

Actually they are more a surge than a wave - once it arrives it just keeps coming for a while.

  4. Well, Crescent City got slammed in that huge Alaskan quake tsunami a long time ago. I'm glad I'm up on the headlands, but it's gonna suck if I have to get out of here. Highway 101 south from here runs at sea level right next to the ocean in a bunch of spots. This can't bode well for road conditions.

I'm posting some video of the tsunami damage in Japan. Pretty awful.

  5. OBSERVED SURGE HEIGHTS AND ARRIVAL TIME FOR THE HIGHEST RECORDED SURGE SO FAR DURING THIS TSUNAMI:
ARENA COVE...5.7 FEET AT 9:46 AM
POINT REYES...4.4 FEET AT 10:03 AM
SAN FRANCISCO...2.0 FEET AT 8:59 AM
MONTEREY HARBOR...2.4 FEET AT 7:50 AM
NOTE THAT THE LARGEST WAVES MAY NOT HAVE ARRIVED YET SINCE THETSUNAMI IS A SERIES OF WAVES THAT MAY LAST FOR MANY HOURS.

  6. @Angie - right now, closures along Great Hwy for Ocean, China and Baker beaches. Busy along RT 92 and 35 and other bridges/water routes as folks are trying to get a peak at the "waves". Closures along RT 1 through Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay and RT 101 around northern cities of Crescent City, Humboldt and Del Norte.

  7. Depending on how much damage there's been, maybe it will be mellow around here for a while. :o[

  9. The Twitter feed on the Google news page says the swell could be over eight feet later today. So the worst may not be over here. I hope we don't get radioactive waves now too.

  11. Yes, I looked there last night and bubkes showed for the West Coast on the second link, and the big red warning at the first one wasn't there last night either.

All I know is I was under the impression we were waiting for the tsunami to hit on WEDNESDAY and didn't care WHAT threatened my life. Today, I'm all huh? And feel sort of like I'm being sucked down into a time/space warp or something.

I was just watching a video and this really annoying high whistle was going off on it, and so I snapped it off to make it stop. IT DIDN'T STOP! I was very upset! It was my fucking teapot! I'm not kidding. I'm losing it.

  12. Good thing your teapot whistles.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I keep reminding myself of that, but I really, really, REALLY, no, reeeeeally HATE whistling teapots! And I fucking can't tell its whistle from some anonymously annoying noise anymore! SOMEONE DRAG ME OFF TO THE BIN WHERE I CAN'T HURT MYSELF, PLEASE!

  14. I like my little non-whistling electric guy. It heats up fast and doesn't burn itself out when you forget to unplug it.

On Wednesday there was a 6.1 quake not far from today's. I wonder if that was a preshock.

    ReplyDelete
  15. And a 6.5 in the Bali Sea yesterday.
And the one in New Zealand.
And volcano eruptions in hawaii and indonesia
    hmmm

  16. I never can find one of those fuckers that doesn't stop working on me right away. I think I gave that one to you because it wouldn't do its thing for me, or took too long, or something was highly irksome about it. You have better karma with those plug-in jobs. I'm tired of exciting the landfill guys with it. BUT, if I could find a way to strangle my chic teapot, it would surely be dead. I have to keep doing all these Buddhist supplications for my life being saved by it all the time, but I don't MEAN it.

I think today's was a preshock to the earthquake that ate the planet... or... that has to be something like it because I only get THIS weird BEFORE the big stuff. Maybe the nukes plant will blow and we can all stop worrying about everything THAT way.

  17. Oh, dude, the bastions of Out There are abuzz with 3D animations of the multitudes of quakes over the last week. Word is that they fired up HAARP last night, and bipbam, Japan gets slimed.

I say it is the expanding earth guy finally being vindicated.

  18. In your out there excursions, have you run across Benjamin Fulford? He says the next target is the New Madrid fault.

    ReplyDelete
  19. One of the vids was from a guy with his car all packed with survival tools and food for the guy, his wife and his cats. He lives on the New Madrid fault, but I don't know if it was Fulford. I went through a bunch of them.

I'm gonna do a playlist of Farrell responding to people about the possibility of us coercing Japan in by this means....

    ReplyDelete
  20. Fulford's a Canadian, used to work the asian desk for Forbes, I think it was. He's been blamin haarp for quakes for years. Youtube has a shitload of his videos. Ninja freemasons.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Well, all I know is that people who SEEM to know what they're talking about have been pointing out the WEIRD features of many recent quakes, AND weird grid-like cloud patterns, and blaming them on HAARP. They've made believers out of some presidents and other people who would want to better proof than I would... so there's SOMETHING to it. That's why I did the Farrell playlist. I don't get the premise for it, but some people do, and some people who I know don't engage in the out-there-tude of things for drill are all pretty sure we've got the technology for this shit and they're just not telling us.

Personally, I'm just letting it hang there without believing it or disbelieving it, waiting for the other shoe to drop, I guess.

  22. I really, really, REALLY, no, reeeeeally HATE whistling teapots!

A friend of mine once came home with a new teapot. He set the box containing it down on the table and went and grabbed a hammer and a nail.

As soon as he brought the pot out of the box he set in on the table, took the hammer and nail and drove the nail clean through the whistle hole!

    ReplyDelete
  23. bb - :D I used to hate them and would override the whistle with a toothpick until I burned the bottom out of one.

  24. BB2, is your friend married?

  26. NOT ideal. However, he never met ME. Could be his ENTIRE problem. :o]

  27. I think it was too dark still to see the first surge, because ALL of the video is wussy. It honestly doesn't look any different than your average bad storm and all I can think is that the first surge nobody got on tape was the one that did all the damage and the later ones just compounded matters.

    LOL

    He'd be clueless!
