I mean, I don't like admitting I know people who go there every day for their news.
The Huffington Post is privately owned by its two co-founders, Huffington and Kenneth Lerer, as well as investors. AOL's statement said the directors of each company and shareholders of the Huffington Post have already approved the [sale to AOL], which is expected to be completed by the middle of the year.

Originally a politics blog aimed at Democrats, the Huffington Post branched out into celebrity coverage and turned itself into one of the biggest pieces of real estate in online news media in the US, rapidly overtaking more established media organisations such as the Washington Post by deftly utilising the internet to exploit untapped markets.

Huffington has said that her site made a profit in 2010 for the first time. The New York Times reported that Huffington Post executives estimate that the site will generate $60m in revenue this year, compared with $31m in 2010.
Maybe now people will grok that this is MSM we're talkin'... brain sucking mass hypnosis... brought to you by space lizards... sliming you from every corner of "civilization", INCLUDING the intertubes.

i'm not getting over the latest outburst from the reprehensible snail

.

To coin a phrase my sister uses to death, it "gripes my cookies" that this scummy nutrient-sliming garden pest just keeps growing out of the once righteous good offices of the SPLC. That organization has been turned into a tool for fascism. One of the nonprofits that became so famous that the bad guys came in with all kinds of money to buy off another outlet for their malign intensions.

You know I have been griping about Chris Hedges' sanctimony and the psychedelic mindfuck of calling Tea Partiers "Brown Shirts" when, whatever you think of them, they have been out there in furtherance of freedom from fascism. Well, while going after this image of the foaming snail I found that he and Hedges have been at least once out there lecturing together on an extremely DHS-friendly subject. Because people think Hedges is righteous from his many years protesting wars and badmouthing fascism, and because people still think SPLC = representing the downtrodden against downtreaders, this is a big problem for humans who want sanity to poke its head up out of this psychotic mess we are forced to call our world.

Somewhere in my bookmarks—lost in the dark fuzzy rooms of what's left of my mind for the moment—is a page full of Antiwar's Scott Horton's interviews with people about the Oklahoma City bombing. You can't listen to them without becoming certain the SPLC was not merely weighing in on domestic terrorism: THEY WERE INVOLVED IN IT. —[FOUND IT.]

But all that aside, the monster in the domestic terrorism shtick, even though hardly anyone likes skinheads, is the threat to our freedom it poses. It is the perfect tool for clamping down, and that is what the House is doing even as we speak. So we must be wary of everyone who purports to be on our side but furthers alarm in the public about domestic terrorism. Maybe it is hard for you to see the justification here, but I must impress upon you that very bad people DO take over very good organizations and either turn them completely useless for improving the world, or turn them into tools for actually helping to make things worse. The enemy preys upon everything you think is decent.

In fact, they troll for everything you think is decent so they can use it to point them toward what to coöpt. You think doing stuff like running in to attach ourselves to the Tea Party is reprehensible, consorting with the enemy, when it could have prevented assholes who don't care about any of us from doing it, and could have rendered our society already stronger against the bastards using us to pick their teeth.

I don't think Hedges is beyond redemption, but for sure Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow—as long as they keep their jobs—and Mark Potok are irretrievably poison to a better world. So you should be working on Hedges to take his head out of his ass and actively working to convince others to close their ears to the Fox News of the "left".

[I need to train myself not to try to post anything while also trying to keep up with my puttering. It really messes with the SENSE of things I'm trying to convey. I think I have now cleaned up most of the ambiguity in here....]

Except for keeping my eyes open. Here we have KO speaking to the unspeakable Mr. Potok of the unspeakable SPLC, who manages to dis David Icke [pronounced IKE, not ICKY], a supposedly crazed right wingnut, in the midst of a discussion purported to be about the shootings in Arizona yesterday. It ISN'T about that. It's a terrifying set piece of "progressive" mesmerism. Ask yourself WHY anyone would put a mindfucker from the SPLC on to discuss THIS. What the fuck does this have to do with their purported mission? Bubkes. That's what.

In case you wonder why this vile dung heap would be bringing Icke into something he himself doesn't belong discussing on TV, David Icke is VOCIFEROUSLY anti-Israeli slaughter of Palestinians. THAT is the axe he is grinding.

This is psychedelic.

Suffice it to say, MSNBC is full of vicious vitriol and at LEAST as bad as Fox.

DESPICABLE, DESPICABLE, DESPICABLE!

.

I am also pretty creeped out by what purports to be Loughner's YouTube channel. If it is real, it's obviously someone going to get vivid. If it's not, it's obviously someone trying to make it look like he was going to get vivid. The emphasis on mind control can be that he was a victim of it, or that someone wanted him to appear to be a victim of it. The psychedelia about currency, to me, suggests more that this was done by someone else, someone wanting to make it look as though Loughner were some diabolical kook who subscribes to this whole push for REAL money.

I don't like how this is playing out. I don't like it at all.

.

I seriously don't like how HuffPo and KO and the little constellation of "progressive" outlets are ALL over this.

I don't like how this has turned into an excuse for the House to not happen as usual.

I don't like it one little bit.

As my old friend Danny would say, This STINKS... and not from the righties....

.

Maybe I'm paranoid, but Icke's page is being way slower to load even than usual today, so Potok's smear may be driving too much traffic to the page. Fucking hell. I think I need to start searching for the perfect image of LEMMINGS to post permanently at the head of my blog....

Fine moment I pick to look at the headlines....
Terror plot thwarted as US-bound explosives seized
By EILEEN SULLIVAN and MATT APUZZO, Associated Press – 5 mins ago

WASHINGTON — Authorities on three continents thwarted multiple terrorist attacks aimed at the United States from Yemen on Friday, seizing two explosive packages addressed to Chicago-area synagogues and packed aboard cargo jets. The plot triggered worldwide fears that al-Qaida was launching a major new terror campaign.

President Barack Obama called the coordinated attacks a "credible terrorist threat," and U.S. officials said they were increasingly confident that al-Qaida's Yemen branch, the group responsible for the failed Detroit airliner bombing last Christmas, was responsible.

Parts of the plot might remain undetected, Obama's counterterror chief warned. "The United States is not assuming that the attacks were disrupted and is remaining vigilant," John Brennan said at the White House.

One of the packages was found aboard a cargo plane in Dubai, the other in England. Preliminary tests indicated the packages contained the powerful industrial explosive PETN, the same chemical used in the Christmas attack, U.S. officials said. The tests had not been confirmed.

In the U.S., cargo planes were searched up and down the Eastern Seaboard, and an Emirates Airlines passenger jet was escorted down the coast to New York by American fighter jets.

No explosives were found aboard those planes, though the investigation was continuing on at least two.

Obama's sobering assessment, delivered from the White House podium, unfolded four days before national elections in which discussion of terrorism has played almost no role. The president went ahead with weekend campaign appearances.

The terrorist efforts "underscore the necessity of remaining vigilant against terrorism," the president said. While he said both packages that contained explosives originated in Yemen, he did not explicitly assign blame to al-Qaida, which is active in that Arab country and long has made clear its goal of launching new attacks on the United States.

Authorities in Dubai intercepted one explosive device. The second package was aboard a plane searched in East Midlands, north of London, and officials said it contained a printer toner cartridge with wires and powder. Brennan said the devices were in packages about the size of a breadbox.

While Obama didn't specifically accuse Yemen's al-Qaida branch, Brennan called it the most active al-Qaida franchise and said anyone associated with the group was a subject of concern.

The radical U.S.-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, who now is in hiding in Yemen, is believed to have helped inspire recent attacks including the Fort Hood shooting, the Times Square bombing attempt and the failed Detroit airliner bombing last Christmas Day. Another American hiding in Yemen, Samir Khan, has declared himself a traitor and has helped produce al-Qaida propaganda.

Most of the officials spoke on condition of anonymity, citing the ongoing investigation.

Brennan later told reporters that the explosives "were in a form that was designed to try to carry out some type of attack," but he provided no further details.

"The forensic analysis is under way," he said, adding, "Clearly from the initial observation, the initial analysis that was done, the materials that were found in the device that was uncovered was intended to do harm."

Intelligence personnel had been monitoring a suspected plot for days, officials said. The packages in England and Dubai were discovered after Saudi Arabian intelligence picked up information related to Yemen and passed it on to the U.S., one official said.

U.S. intelligence officials warned last month that terrorists hoped to mail chemical and biological materials as part of an attack on America and other Western countries using the mail. The alert came in a Sept. 23 bulletin from the Homeland Security Department and obtained by The Associated Press.

In the hours following the discoveries, Yemeni officials and Scotland Yard were investigating and the U.S. issued a 72-hour ban on all cargo from Yemen.

"As a precaution, DHS has taken a number of steps to enhance security," the agency said in a statement. "Some of these security measures will be visible while others will not."

U.S. authorities conducted searches of aircraft in Philadelphia, Newark, N.J., and New York City.

Since the failed Christmas bombing of a Detroit-bound airliner, Yemen has been a focus for U.S. counterterrorism officials. Before that attack, the U.S. regarded al-Qaida's branch in Yemen as primarily a threat in the region, not to the United States.

The Yemen branch known as al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula has since become a leading source of terrorist propaganda and recruiting. Authorities believe about 300 al-Qaida members or cells operate in Yemen.

The Yemeni government has stepped up counterterrorism operations, with help from the U.S. military and intelligence officials. Mohammed Shayba, general-director of the state airline's cargo department, said the government is conducting an investigation.

"Those in charge are in constant meetings and they are investigating and taking the issue seriously," he told The Associated Press.
Would it stop if I quit looking?

I notice also that just as Ahmadinejad did not get reported as visiting Lebanon, but rather as going to visit Hezbollah, so too has Medvedev's nomination of Putin's deputy to serve as a replacement for the fired Moscow mayor been portrayed as Putin positioning himself for the next presidential elections. We don't even get to read straight headlines. They're packed with the propaganda... maybe even most of it, since that's all most people read.

Plus, and I don't know what exactly to make of this, there seem to be a lot of meetings between Russian heads of state and European heads of state lately... so I'm starting to wonder if our failed attempt to sink the euro to save the dollar might not have put some of them in a mind to make better alliances.... MURDERATING FUCKS SHOULD BE STONED TO DEATH

The money quote:
The death penalty is likely to be executed by hanging. Stoning - which still prevailed under the Shah’s rule and was maintained for a number of years after his overthrow - has been abolished by the Islamic Revolution. Irritated by the statements of Bernard-Henri Lévy and Nicolas Sarkozy, the vice-president of the Iranian Judicial Council told Dieudonné M’bala M’bala that he defies these Zionist figures to find one single text of contemporary Iranian law that contemplates stoning.
I have a much better idea who should be stoned to death. THINK of the heavy rotation this bullshit has gotten all across the biggest "progressive" groupthink websites. Far more than just this was wrong with the reportage in content, and even worse wrong in motivation. It's warmongering of the highest order. It's unqualified obeisance to the fascist elite. It is Zionism to the ultimate extent.

FBI says it supplied fake bomb in Chicago plot
By SOPHIA TAREEN, Associated Press Writer

CHICAGO – A man arrested for allegedly placing a backpack he thought contained a bomb near Chicago's Wrigley Field got the fake explosive from an FBI undercover agent, authorities say — a tactic that has been used in other U.S. terrorism cases in recent years.

Sami Samir Hassoun, 22, a Lebanese citizen living in Chicago for about three years, was charged Monday with one count each of attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and attempted use of an explosive device.

Hassoun was arrested early Sunday after planting the fake explosive device in a trash receptacle near Sluggers World Class Sports Bar, a popular bar steps from Wrigley Field, FBI Special Agent in Charge Robert Grant said. The Cubs were not playing at their home field; the stadium hosted Dave Matthews Band concerts Friday and Saturday nights.

It wouldn't be the first time FBI agents have posed as terror operatives and supplied suspects with bogus explosives. Last year, authorities arrested a Jordanian national after he allegedly attempted to detonate what he thought was a bomb outside a Dallas skyscraper. In an unrelated case, authorities in Springfield, Ill., arrested another man after he allegedly tried he tried to set off what he thought was explosives in a van outside a federal courthouse.

In a similar case in May 2009, four men were arrested after they allegedly tried to detonate fake explosives — also provided by the FBI — outside two synagogues in New York City.

In the Chicago case, the FBI said an informant tipped investigators about Hassoun nearly a year ago. Grant said Hassoun acted alone and that the undercover agents told him they were from California and unaffiliated with any group. He declined to offer specific details about Hassoun's motivations, but said he believed the agents were ready to give him money if he carried out the attack.

"He wanted to transform the city of Chicago, he wanted to make a statement and he wanted to replace the mayor of Chicago," Grant said. "He was unhappy with the way the city was running. He was also unhappy with things that were happening in other parts of world."

At a brief hearing Monday, Hassoun quietly told U.S. Judge Susan Cox that he understood the charges. Hassoun's federally appointed public defender Dan McLaughlin declined to comment on the case, as did several family members who attended the hearing. A message left on an answering machine at Hassoun's home telephone number wasn't returned.

Authorities say the informant befriended Hassoun over the course of a year, conducting conversations in Arabic, which were taped and shared with the FBI. Hassoun waffled greatly on his plans, authorities said.

Initially, he didn't want to cause violence, suggesting setting off smoking devices in downtown locations near City Hall, authorities said.

"No killing. There is no killing," he told the informant, according to the complaint.

But his plans became more grand, as he believed bigger acts would command public attention and embarrass the mayor, according to the complaint.

"Little by little, I'm building it up," he said, according to the complaint. "I will shake Chicago."

Hassoun's alleged plots ranged during the investigation. They included talk of plans to unleash a biological virus on Chicago and bombing the Willis Tower, formerly known as the Sears Tower, the complaint said.

Hassoun on one occasion told the informant he wanted to paralyze commerce in the city, according to the complaint. Asked how he intended to carry out various suggested attacks, Hassoun responded, "You park the car, and let it go 'boom,'" the complaint says.

Grant said Hassoun wanted to start his own organization and planned to flee to California after the device went off in Wrigleyville.

"He was not highly skilled, but I think he was definitely desirous of obtaining the material needed to carry out his attack," Grant said.

Shortly before the plot near Wrigley Field, the informant introduced Hassoun to the undercover agents who Hassoun believed were friends and would pay for the attack to be carried out.

Chicago authorities said Daley never was in any danger. Police said Daley — who has been in China for a business trip — was informed of the plot over the weekend.

"We were always in control of this investigation," said Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis.
I do not think there has been a single terrorist found in the United States. You might wonder why they spend so much time making people look like terrorists when there are real ones to nab. Well, [1] that would be hard work; [2] it would be extremely unsafe; and [3] you don't go looking for the real thing when you know it's all a hoax, there are no real ones to nab. Just like the criminal is never out looking for the guy who did the crime. Just like the neighborhood thief who isn't worried about getting robbed. And if you read this and think it was anything more than another sap being drawn into the propaganda mill, at the price of his life, it's just hopeless.

You're paying for this.

They've done it over and over and over for years and pretty soon yer gonna think it's real. They'll be requiring theater degrees to enter the law enforcement profession. This is okay with you?

Don't eat the shrimp.
Gulf shrimpers pray for good season despite oil
By KEVIN McGILL, Associated Press Writer – 1 hr 17 mins ago

THERIOT, La. — Docked boats were bedecked with fluttering red, white and blue streamers and rainbows of balloons in a bayou-country, pre-shrimp season tradition known as the "Blessing of the Boats."

On the menu? Heaping trays of barbecued chicken, smoked sausage and potato salad — but no crabs or shrimp.

Blame the BP oil spill. The company has plugged the leak and announced Sunday that cement sealing the busted oil well in the Gulf of Mexico had hardened, clearing the path for the final phase of drilling a relief well.

The future isn't so clear for fishermen and their families seeking blessings for a bountiful harvest and divine protection from the water's dangers. They are wondering if the waters will ever be the same again.

"I've had ice chests of shrimp in my freezer all my life," said Dita Dehart, 70, a lifelong area resident who was working on desserts in a back room of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, which has hosted the blessing on Bayou Dularge for more than 50 years. "I have none now."

Fishermen have suffered through the ever-changing scenario of on-again, off-again closures and a murky future ever since the Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April 20, killing 11 workers. BP said Sunday it may soon begin drilling the final 100 feet of a relief well.

Once the relief well intersects the broken well, more mud and cement will be pumped in for the "bottom kill" meant to seal the well for good.

However, the plugging of the well hasn't ended the uncertainty: Yes, the state technically set next Monday Aug. 16 as the opening for a fall shrimp season along the coast, but some waters will likely remain closed as federal authorities test the safety of the seafood.

"I got a boat that's ready," said Ravin Lacoste, 57. "But we don't know what's going to open up."

"It's open, it's closed, it's open it's closed," said Charles Lovell Jr., before he clambered aboard his shrimp boat to ferry the Rev. Jervis Burns up and down the bayou.

Burns first conducted a service for about 50 fishermen, their families and other parishioners of St. Andrews. The congregation gathered around him on the banks or watched from about a dozen shrimp and oyster boats, sheriff's patrol boats and other vessels that sat across a two-lane road from the church — a long, pitch-roofed white metal building nestled between two sprawling oaks, draped with Spanish moss.

Then he climbed aboard Lovell's shrimp boat to lead a water parade, during which he would bless other vessels docked along the bayou and then toss out a wreath memorializing fishermen who have died on the waters.

Scenes like this play out along coastal Louisiana throughout much of the year — fishermen and their families seeking a good harvest and divine protection .

"Hurricanes and high waters and all of that. And this year we had the BP oil spill," Burns said as he opened his bayou-side service.

Aside from uncertainty over when and where they'll be able to fish, fishermen are facing lingering doubts about the market, says Mike Dehart, 51, Lacoste's brother-in-law, who runs a shrimp dock just up the road. Demand, and the prices he could get for shrimp, shot up right after the spill, he said, as people rushed to get what they feared would be their last taste of Gulf seafood. But demand and prices dropped as the spill continued. "It's going to take a couple of years before things get back to normal," he said.

Behind him, heat shimmered off two huge black barbecue smokers. His sister Melissa Lacoste, 53, was helping organize the day's lunch — a fundraiser that would help pay to replace the church's recreation hall, destroyed in Hurricane Gustav two years ago. But they were preparing only 400 plates instead of the usual 700.

The lack of a recreation hall where people could sit comfortably was one reason. And, she said, crabs and shrimp are more popular than chicken, she added (although the 400 plates of chicken later sold out quickly).

"We're afraid with this BP stuff our fishermen's not going to be able to raise the money," Dita Dehart.

The oil spill is only the latest problem to confront St. Andrews. The current St. Andrews building, parishioners say, was built after Hurricane Audrey destroyed an older one in 1957. Gustav's destruction of the recreation hall was followed by the retirement of a priest who hasn't been replaced.

"They've persevered through an awful lot, I'll tell you," said Burns.

today in black like me

I was very young when I saw the movie, and felt it was a metaphor for certain parts of our society. I was a little older when I read the book and it made me think of Martin and Malcolm. I didn't know until a few years ago that a black man wrote it. It made me sooooo angry that they had a white man play the part in that masterpiece. I guess there are good arguments for and against, but what I really want to say is I am SO sick of the race thing.

For a long while I just refused to believe racism, to any measurable extent, was still at work in America, because nowhere in my experience could I find it, but friends from other parts of the country insisted I was dreaming, that it was alive and well all over the country, telling me ugly story after ugly story after ugly story to convince me the country was NOT as progressive as Northern California. So I caved, but I may be on the verge of going back to my former position on the matter because I am beginning to think the whole business is a manufactured-by-the-fascist-media bullshit wedge issue, generated on purpose to keep everybody frightened and confused and resentful.

I just DON'T believe it. People don't want to hate each other. People don't want to kill each other. They have to have some sort of environmental conditioning to get them there. We're being played. We've always been being played.

We can stop playing.

Jesus fuck. Wake up! Wake up, America!
Al-Qaida cleric: Yemen to be Obama's Afghanistan
By PAUL SCHEMM, Associated Press Writer – 15 mins ago

CAIRO – A U.S.-born, al-Qaida-linked cleric warned the American people that President Barack Obama will mire U.S. forces in Yemen just as Afghanistan, in a message appearing Monday on militant websites.

The 13-minute audio message, in English, comes just days after the U.S. Treasury department put Anwar al-Awlaki on its list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists.

"If George W. Bush is remembered as being the president who got America stuck in Afghanistan and Iraq, it's looking like Obama wants to be remembered as the president who got America stuck in Yemen," he said.

Separately, al-Qaida's deputy leader Ayman al-Zawahri vowed that the American troops would leave both Afghanistan and Iraq in "defeat."

U.S officials worry al-Qaida's offshoot in Yemen has found refuge in the country's remote, lawless areas and could be plotting attacks against American and other Western targets. Critics, meanwhile, have warned that imposing a deadline for the withdrawal of U.S. forces in Afghanistan and Iraq could provide the terror network a propaganda tool.

Al-Zawahri praised Taliban and al-Qaida-linked groups, saying they are "moving from one victory to another" in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Taliban will "enter Kabul in triumph and Obama will leave it in fear," he said in the hourlong message, his first since May.

"Oh Obama, whether you admit it or not, Muslims have defeated you in Afghanistan and in Iraq and you will be defeated in Palestine, Somalia and the Arab Megrab," he said, referring to Islamic countries in northern Africa. "You will not be defeated militarily and economically but most important you will be defeated morally."

The message appeared with Arabic subtitles over still photos of al-Awlaki and accused Fort Hood shooter, U.S. Army Maj. Nidal Hasan, and the accused would-be Christmas Day bomber, Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab.

Al-Awlaki, who is on the run in Yemen, is believed to have had contacts with the accused bomber in the Christmas Day attempt to bomb a U.S. airliner. He also is believed to have exchanged e-mails with Hasan, who allegedly killed 13 people at Fort Hood.

In the audio message, al-Awlaki mocked U.S. efforts to combat al-Qaida in Yemen, saying its strikes were only sending recruits streaming to the terror group and had "accomplished for them (al-Qaida) the work of years."

He added that the Yemeni government, which the U.S. is supporting with millions in military aid, was swindling the Obama administration.

Al-Awlaki began the message by highlighting the inconvenient new airport security measures in the United States brought on by its wars against Muslims and said they still could not keep people safe and he predicted America's demise.

"Imperial hubris is leading America to its fate: a war of attrition, a continuous hemorrhage that would end with the fall and splintering of the United States of America," he said.

Born in New Mexico, al-Awlaki, 39, is not perceived by American officials as a major tactical terror leader on par with al-Qaida founder Osama bin Laden. But his role as an inspirational exhorter for al-Qaida's cause and his growing involvement in plots aimed at the U.S. has made him a prime target in the effort to counter the militant movement.

Six months ago the U.S. government put al-Awlaki on a secret list of targets to be captured or killed, according to U.S. officials.

Despite ties to two of the 9/11 hijackers and the Fort Hood gunman, al-Awlaki has avoided terrorism charges over the years because he never crossed the line into being an active member of al-Qaida — someone who recruits and trains terrorists and plots attacks on the U.S.

But that changed with his involvement with Abdulmutallab, the young recruit to al-Qaida's nascent Yemen branch, who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound airliner on Christmas Day.

WAKE UP, AMERICA!
