.
I would be splatting the most awful invective all over my blog right now.
Former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel was elected mayor of Chicago on Tuesday, easily overwhelming five rivals to take the helm of the nation's third-largest city as it prepares to chart a new course without the retiring Richard M. Daley.
With 98 percent of the precincts reporting, Emanuel had trounced all his opponents with 55 percent of the vote — a margin that allowed him to avoid an April runoff. He needed more than 50 percent of the vote to win outright.
It was the city's first mayoral race in more than 60 years without an incumbent on the ballot and the first in more than two decades without Daley among the candidates. Daley and his father have led Chicago for more than 43 out of the last 56 years.
Emanuel called the victory "humbling" and thanked Daley for his lifetime of service, saying the outgoing mayor had "earned a special place in our hearts and our history."
I imagine it would be most humbling to have the machine throw it for you, but pretty disgusting if it had been that many morons putting their marks by your name.....

ReplyDeleteIt's all down hill from here, let the outsourcing begin.
ReplyDeleteI'd say counter it here, but what's the point anymore, when the mafia want's an office they'll get it spare no expense. On the other hand you might now see why I am caring less and less about the right to vote.

ReplyDeleteMaybe it's just from having to deal with the election crap for too long, and getting that clean shot straight into the heart of the matter, but election integrity just completely stopped being able to rouse my passions or even my desire to interact on the matter. It's all mooted by the the awful stuff going on. It completely doesn't make a difference if our elections are pristine free and fair, or dirty as hell. The result is the same, and the very REASON we vote has been UTTERLY mooted. The ONLY reason I vote anymore is because I refuse to just hand over that pathetic and useless right, but, I'm not kidding, I'm voting for Christopher Walken from now on.
