burma dies... the so-called sanctions against the junta

[click picture]

11:15am: I've gotten a few emails this morning about what does Halliburton and Chevron (which started there as Unocal) being in Thailand have to do with Burma. Google "Yadana or Yetagun Pipeline". A gas pipline running from the ocean, through Burma and into Thailand. They're there. They are not going to be on either side of it and not in it, or their fucking pipeline will get hijacked. Google all the names. The junta (which is now calling itself the State Peace and Development Council... pfeh) is, and has been from inception, supported by multi-national resource extractors. Despite sanctions, companies already operating there were not barred from continuing operations. The sanctions have really only functioned to bar competition and the forced labor, pillage, rape and slaughter continue.

Let me be clear: Multi-national corporate entities, including Chevron and Halliburton, are the means by which the junta in Burma maintains its power in Burma. No one in our government has done anything to stop them in well over a decade.
