I was browsing the Latin American Herald Tribune and came across a snippet about Richard Gere showing up unexpectedly in Ecuador for a visit to the Galapagos, and offering to lend his voice to raise money for preservation efforts. I thought, oh, well, then, maybe I could browse around and find a picture of him there and share it... but... okay... I dropped down another one of my bottomless pits and found pictures of him shaking hands with John Negroponte and Barbara Boxer... and, yeesh, hugging Nancy Pelosi, which just did something to my cognitive faculties. It was all in the course of his ceaseless work to help Tibet, and I can hear all the people dissing Bono for making nice with similarly scummy politicians in the course of his ceaseless work to help the destitute in Africa, but....
If there were really a hope of substantive help by doing these things, I think I could stand it.
As it is, it breaks my heart.
