ReplyDeleteYuba City, 30 miles from here, has an official rate of over 20%. I can't imagine what it really is. The farming communities are hit very hard as are the towns built around logging.
ReplyDeleteAt the 101 Cafe the other day, the cook told me the crews are only working two months this year. That's down from an average of eight months over the last three decades. She knows a log truck driver who had to go back to nursing, and couldn't even find a position up to her level of certification. These are working maniacs we're talking about, people who don't even dream of lives of leisure. NOTHING lazy about them.
