king of sanctimony mellows

Chris Hedges, a man with whom I am almost always in perfect agreement, speaks with Scott Horton here and lightens up just a hair on the Tea Party Movement, and lightens up considerably on the sanctimony that saturates every public speaking engagement and almost every essay he does. It's so obnoxious I can BARELY bring myself to attend, for however much I agree with almost every word out of his mouth. This time, however, he sounds almost like an ordinarily brilliant journalist instead of... who? Martin Luther? The Wizard of Oz? Baaaaad failing in an important voice, and so maybe audio interviews are really the way to go with Chris Hedges... because, man, the speeches and the essays are just dripping and make my skin crawl.

I don't know for sure if they're right about the RNC successfully coöpting the Tea Parties. Probably. But that still might not mean it is too late for the left to get in there and steal the libertarians away from the bubbas, turn this into something wonderful. It ONLY takes determination. It ONLY takes you canning your sense of superiority and reaching out to your fellows.
