On the New Yorker Out Loud thing, and they were going on about WTF could be the problem with everyone worrying about runaway inflation when it's deflation, baby, deflation happening all around us. I was sitting there wondering who did the grocery shopping for these boobs, wondering what in the heck time/space warp they'd dropped into or if it was me. Then it hit me that they were probably talking about stuff, things, doodads, crap, iPhones.

They most CERTAINLY were NOT talking about FOOD. If they thought they were, they need decapitating, okay?

Of course, in their defense, deflationary spirals are the flip side of hyperinflation.... So. I'm just being crabby about having to eat lawn clippings.

[A word to the wise: YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS MOST OF WHAT THEY HAVE TO SAY ON THAT LAST LINK.]

  1. Hey...

They lowered the food prices 25% at the State Fair this year!

Corn dogs were a bargain once again and the deep fried Twinkies were rolling off the shelf dirt cheap!

  2. No. No. I was referring to FOOD food, not poison posing as food. Of COURSE poison is cheaper! THEY WANT US TO BUY IT!

  3. Since corn oil prices have gone through the roof since they started using it to fuel cars, we may as well give up bread too.

  4. Oh, sarcasm, yes, I remember that stuff....

    CORN OIL IS POISON!

  5. When I use veg oil I use canola.

Go through about pint a month at the most.

  6. Crazy weather - below average most of the summer so far - near record lows last night - 5-10 degrees below normal daytime highs predicted for the next week.

Some benefits though - only 4 days above 100 so far - highest was 102. Typically about 12-15 by now with several 107s thrown in there.

Also only 2 days of smog alert - 12 by this time last year.

    But the tomato crop sucks!

  7. Canola is okay, but extra virgin olive oil is the best. NOT the "lite" stuff. That has had all the good stuff strained out of it and makes it as deadly as the other vegetable oils. If you do EVOO for cooking and salads, etc, and take a flaxseed oil supplement, it's very good for you. EVOO is mostly good for you oil, with some bad -- same with canola, only less so -- but the flaxseed oil is not only all good for you, but changes some of the bad triglycerides into good ones in your body. If you do this, your doctor will beam at your blood counts and pat you on the back. Eating a handful of walnuts every day also raises the ratio of good triglycerides to bad ones. I'm talkin' exceptionally heart smart nutrition here.

  8. Yes - Zucchini, yellow crook neck and patty pans cubed up and sauteed in EVOO with some basil, oregano and garlic!

    YUM!

  9. Off now to the guitar store - finally have some extra cash to get new strings for my guitar!

The old ones are dead! Sound like crap and the wound ones are ready to start unraveling.

It sounds so sweet with new strings, but after a couple of weeks it loses the brightness and when they are as old as these there is no ring left to them at all. No sustain.

  10. Sheesh!

Wrote that then found myself confused looking for the "Send" button!

    Old age...

    Crap!

  11. I know. I find that I have whole days where my fingers just forget completely to follow what my head is saying. Typo after typo after typo after typo ... It helps to bang my head on my desk and then go boil up about a half a pound of finely-ground coffee in a pan and then strain it into a cup, add some half and half, and then pound the result before resuming the head banging thing. Then I run outside and flap my arms and bellow epithets.

When I come back, the typos are finally gone.

Or... well... maybe I just can't tell anymore then....
