My dad had a small part in the movie Spartacus playing one of those long strait horns. One day while eating lunch at the picnic tables they put out for the cast members Charles Laughton sat down next to my dad with a plate of food and started telling jokes and eating. My dad said that he had mixed feelings about that day, first he thought Mr. Laughton had terrible manners talking and eating (spraying food) at the same time, but found him very funny and not stuck up at all carousing with the extras.
ReplyDeleteWell, for sure, he always looked the part and so the story isn't surprising. I think really the main reason he was so famous had nothing to do with looks or manners or talent. Must have been connections or vast sums of money, because we all know that talent didn't count THAT much in Hollywood, even back then.
