only two years to the end of this cycle

I know many people hope it will be The End, but I prefer to think of it as something over which we can exercise some agency... foreign as that concept certainly is to the denizens of the Western model. I love the notion of it being our opportunity to rise into another dimension, for those of us in tune with it to split off with it when we are finally aligned with the galactic core... a sort of atheistic version of the Rapture....

  1. Well, I've been chuffed at Wired for the whole Lamo/Manning debacle and get angry all over again when I go there, and also this bit tries to reawaken my Neal Stephenson thing, where I wish for nothing so much as a completely impervious-to-intrusion computer system. This is a monumental hassle and practically infeasible for me, being an old woman in the bosom of bumfuck nowhere, and not exactly needed in any objective sense save how badly privacy invasion pisses me off. I almost seized up when I finally had the money to buy a Mac because of my wish to have it customized by a wizard in advance. But really, I am unspeakably angry with Threat Level, and Wired for that shit they pulled... and even Danger Room by extension... notwithstanding the interesting bits to be gotten there. They have been officially ruined by their mainstreamization, now just living off the patina of chic. I can NEVER get over the feeling that they're telling me things, not in spite of the power structure, but on the power structure's behalf, and the Lamo/Manning crap was the icing on the cake.
