happy new year

.

I am celebrating with all clean clothes for 2011, but it looks as though CBS chose to go with something completely uncharacteristic of the MSM this year. I know, I know, it's a trap...but even Digby's down with it and the ever-reluctant AlterNet... so... hell... с новым годом.

  4. Point in your favor.

The weird thing is that there were NO cherry bombs, fire crackers nor even a pot banging here at midnight. It's usually pandemonium for ten minutes or so and I'm hiding under my desk, but nary a peep tonight. Could be the rain and waaaaay too near freezing temperature... or... the Pelican Bay inmate with the most obnoxious family FINALLY got let out and the fuckers moved away....

  5. Rin & Kae are in Frisco at a Grateful Dead Remnants show, Meg's in the front room partying with a few of her friends and I'm here in the bedroom with the dogs and Wagon Train on the tube.

  8. Oh, and now a helicopter circling overhead announcing something about the fire department coming. Then there was an explosion and numerous cop cars showed up in front of my house, blocking the intersection. Then a fire engine came, the helicopter left and the police and firemen went walking up the alley across the street.

Another night of excitement in the hood!

  9. I just hate it when firemen think my house is burning down. They make a mess first and ask questions later.

  11. Wagon Train - ya, about 50 years old. I used to watch it all the time when I was a kid. I'd fantasize that I was the scout Clint McCullough.

  12. I think I was fantasizing something else about that scout....

  13. LMAO...

Crap, my email is conked out - I got a Happy New Year from Homie but keep getting an error message when I try to reply. I tried sending a mail to my work address and got the same error. When I try to download new mail it just times out.

Usually this is a transient problem.

Well the fire department just left so I'm going to give it up for tonight - see ya later.

I'll have to walk the alley tomorrow and see if I can figure out what was going on.

You are veddy, veddy velcome and I hope I can keep it up. I have recently been researched — QUOTED — by Pew, so I have arrived. :o]

It would be a bummer for it all to go south now that I'm part of the establishment's record....

  17. When they show a 757 hitting the pentagon on TV let me know.

Too little, too late, too bad for those watching it on that new 46" LCD TV from Target.

  19. Hey Blue, OTG & OUD Happy new year!

The alley incident remains another of the many mysteries. Nothing in the news reports, nothing at the police blotter. I walked the alley and no sign of anything burned or exploded. Power pole transformers all looked OK.

About ten years ago some tweakers had their whole back yard full of boxes of clothes and other misc. stuff. The city had already come in once and cleaned it all up, but it built right back up again. Their power had been cut off so to the delight of the neighbors the were running a gas powered generator 24/7. One night the generator caught on fire as did all the stuff in the back yard. The flames from their detached garage got up into the power lines and caused the old transformer to explode spraying PCBs all over the alley.

For the next couple of weeks graders took the alley down about two feet as they hauled away the polluted dirt and gravel. Then many truckloads of new gravel were brought in to bring the alley up to level. Then half a dozen dump truck loads of charred debris were hauled from the yard. The landlord was billed somewhere around $120,000 for the cleanup.

Needless to say the house went into foreclosure, was taken back by the bank and sat vacant for over a year.

  20. 99 - Thanks for relaying to Homyra, my email is working again this morning. Not sure if was actually broken, or if the reboot this morning solved the problem.

The only bodies were in South Sac - nothing new for that part of town, and the poor guy that fell off the I street bridge trying to see the fireworks.
