Steve Jobs, the head of technology company Apple, has announced he is taking a new leave of absence for health reasons.

Jobs made the announcement in an email to Apple staff on Monday.

"At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO [chief executive officer] and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company," Jobs said in his email.

Apple stock fell as much as 7 per cent on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange following the news.

Jobs has been on medical leave before, in 2009, and it was later disclosed that he had undergone a liver transplant as part of treatment for pancreatic cancer.

Share price dip

John Terret, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Washington, said that the share price dip would have been expected given Jobs's health worries and how closely he is associated with the company's success.

"He has had Pancreatic cancer, and he also had a liver transplant that we only found out about through The Wall Street Journal, which is the vehicle that Apple uses to let us know things they don't want to say themselves," Terrett said.

"Now, for the second time, he's not going to be in charge on a day-to-day basis.

"When this happens for a second time, when you've had pancreatic cancer and when you look as ill after one year as he does, compared to how he looked 12 months ago, you've got to wonder. That's why the share price is down today."

Obligations to shareholders

Jobs said in his email that he had asked Tim Cook, the current chief operating officer, "to be responsible for all of Apple's day-to-day operations".

"I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011," he said.

"I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy."

Questions about Jobs's health have resurfaced periodically since the cancer diagnosis and the subject has been much debated among corporate governance experts over the obligations the company has to its shareholders.

Apple's fortunes have been uniquely linked to Jobs, who returned to the company in 1997 after a 12-year absence to turn around the company's fortunes with products such as the iPod and iPhone.

Not to mention iMacs.

Now's when everyone who wishes godlike space aliens would bail us out starts wishing for them to at LEAST drop down to confer good health and immortality on the one man holding Apple back from sliding into unvarnished vampire capitalism with the rest of them.

Seems to me this is a good time for some hotshot kids to start up a brand new company with quality product.

Evidently, these guys have been working really hard on the blue spiral at Norway, and if you hit the image link you can hear Richard C. Hoagland telling all about it. The third part of his series on this is here.

I'm interested in this because it involves the torsion physics, or scalar physics, or whatever they're calling that Nazi Bell stuff that sprung from Einstein's 1928 Unified Field Theory. The short and short of it is that some of these guys are POSITIVE the Nazis took their fancy technology somewhere else at the end of WWII and are now conducting their operations from space. Space Lizards down here and Space Nazis up there. Come out with your hands up.

The bur under my saddle is that these guys have glommed onto the space energy beam, this same technology, theory for the demolition of the WTC. And this does fit in with Tarpley's theory that a coup took place on 9/11 as discussed with Mike Malloy a couple years back. Now, Hoagland is a maniac. That is plain to me after a few times listening to him, but he IS connected up to some major serious kind of insiders and some very scrupulous historians and researchers, so most of the time you can't just dismiss him out of hand... and most of these guys are given to tell the truth... that even when they're wrong, they are telling the truth. So, well, just remember we CANNOT just dismiss this kind of stuff out of hand anymore. We have now found out that too much of what has classically automatically fallen into the wacko conspiracy theorist sector was TRUE all along. So we can't DO that shit anymore.

I'm still winding up to write my piece for you about some new direction I'm thinking about, but this stuff is kind of part of it. We don't get told ANYTHING about what's actual, and can't play with a full deck as long as we play this card game.

One thing I have definitely learned in my adventures in space lizardry is that there are a whole lot of true things, big true things, completely left out of the public sphere—universities, media, social consciousness—that would be immeasurably helpful for everyone to know.

The real story about Nikola Tesla alone would have given us an entirely different world. But think of, say, the Yale MBAs who could have fished our asses out of this death lock of vampire capitalism if they had learned at Yale about our actual monetary policy, if they had been taught that the Fed is not federal, etc. Think of the heroes who might still walk the earth without MK Ultra. Think about how we may never have had a Mossad if all those Nazi scientists hadn't been snatched up by the United States and the Soviet Union. Think how much better our technology would be if we didn't go off down an eighty-year-and-counting black hole in physics, if Einstein's attempts at Unified Field theories had been pursued, if so much of Tesla's stuff hadn't been deep-sixed by plutocrats. All kinds of ACTUAL stuff that hardly anyone knows about would have rendered a vastly saner world if they had ever been mainstream knowledge.

And consider how much is secret and suppressed right now. We SEE our government covering up actuality every day. How much of that is actually stuff that could help liberate us?

All of it.

So it isn't that oligarchs have been ruining our lives since Dubya got selected. Not by a long shot. They've just gotten less concerned about what it looks like to us is all. I'm not saying this to help you shrug it off on the grounds that it's always been this way. I'm saying it to help you realize that the power exercised over us by these people needs to come to a complete halt.

This is particularly interesting to me because as a very young girl I decided to try to write a book about a woman scientist who got the secret of free energy from dolphins. I'd started writing poems at about age seven, and then letters and poems, and then thought to start trying to write stories and novels. My very first idea was about liberating the world with free, clean, limitless energy for everyone.

I don't know why.

Except that I had been shocked to learn that water did not materialize at the tap, that there was some clunking system of pipes to get it to everyone's homes. Similarly, wires were needed for electricity and telephones. I recoiled at the notion of tv and radio coming in off the air. Microwave ovens have creeped me out since they went into production. For as insane as it might sound, I think I knew way more at age seven than I did after graduating from school. The first couple years were very helpful because they got the whole language and numbers basics in straight, though I had been reading and doing math before kindergarten, just not clear on how to produce this stuff on my own. Other than that, only snippets of all the rest of my education ended up being useful at all, and in the aggregate I do swear my education set me back, buried my greater intelligence almost beyond retrieval.

So. Maybe this isn't true for everyone, but I suspect actually that it is. But even if you insist that average kids need school, at the very least we should be radically changing the contents of that "educating"... because, as it is, it really is better called "conditioning".

Sheesh. I'm peering out my windows and the neighbors' downspouts have piles of pea-sized hail balls about six inches high under them. Goldie's got an inch of it on her. So do all the roofs I can see from here. So does the ground. The sky is a billowy iron gray. But I'm losing sight of all this because my old single-pane windows are fogging up something crazy. Crikey.

I ain't kidding, people were sweating and griping about the heat not even two weeks ago, and the time intervening has been peppered with t-shirt weather, but there just keep being blasts of the North Pole coming in between the waves of Spring and Summer. Freaky.

I can't see my gorgeous single-petal climbing rose that was starting to bloom two days ago unless I climb up on my kitchen counter and press my face to the already soggy and foggy window pane.... I'm hoping it's protected enough, up against the house in the crook of the el from my kitchen that opens out into a larger front room. I mean, I hate roses and the roses here were in for shit shape when I got here and I couldn't get anyone to take them off my hands, so I worked really hard to bring them back to health and beauty. Two of them, both climbers I can't really let climb too much because they're in barrels, are seriously pretty bloomers.

Long since, I have figured out the perfect configuration for this place, the way to make it comfortable and energy efficient and relatively impervious to this sort of stuff, but, well, that takes money and/or a really handy person with muscles... neither of which are to hand.

Oh! Oh! Don't let me forget to brag that in one of the most lucid mornings of my life, I leapt out of bed and immediately boiled the water for a whole thermos full of coffee. I can't tell you how many stormy mornings we have lost power around here before I had it together to get coffee. Sometimes I had it together for one cup before the power went down, but many times not even that, and the creepiest guy in California is the only one around with a gas barbecue for people to come mooch a means of coffee water... so I have to lump it on those days. Today, I actually thought to make myself a stock of it in case the power goes down.

So, now, it probably miraculously won't, but I'm still damn proud of myself, because I've been a much worse twit in the mornings for the last few years than ever before in my whole life of legendarily insentient mornings.... The thyroid hormone and vitamin D supplementation took their sweet time, but they do seriously seem to have fixed me up really well. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much indeed.

It may seem Martian to be bragging about such trivia, but ask anyone who knows me, I need a damn handler to shuttle me from one room to the other in the mornings. It's frickin' pathetic. Notwithstanding my IQ being right there to respond to something like a hard crossword puzzle, the thousands of times the wrong burner got turned on for coffee water; toes stubbed while trying to turn from the hall into the bathroom; head glonked on cabinet doors; whole self hit the floor from tripping over my own feet; telephone calls aborted because we couldn't get my mouth to wrap around what was trying to come from my brain... pfeh... just deplorable... albeit sometimes damn entertaining. So. Maybe you can tell why I'd feel some pride about my foresight this morning.

Spray-on liquid glass is about to revolutionize almost everything

The liquid glass spray (technically termed “SiO2 ultra-thin layering”) consists of almost pure silicon dioxide (silica, the normal compound in glass) extracted from quartz sand. Water or ethanol is added, depending on the type of surface to be coated. There are no additives, and the nano-scale glass coating bonds to the surface because of the quantum forces involved. According to the manufacturers, liquid glass has a long-lasting antibacterial effect because microbes landing on the surface cannot divide or replicate easily.

Liquid glass was invented in Turkey and the patent is held by Nanopool, a family-owned German company. Research on the product was carried out at the Saarbrücken Institute for New Materials. Nanopool is already in negotiations in the UK with a number of companies and with the National Health Service, with a view to its widespread adoption.

The liquid glass spray produces a water-resistant coating only around 100 nanometers (15-30 molecules) thick. On this nanoscale the glass is highly flexible and breathable. The coating is environmentally harmless and non-toxic, and easy to clean using only water or a simple wipe with a damp cloth. It repels bacteria, water and dirt, and resists heat, UV light and even acids. UK project manager with Nanopool, Neil McClelland, said soon almost every product you purchase will be coated with liquid glass.

Food processing companies in Germany have already carried out trials of the spray, and found sterile surfaces that usually needed to be cleaned with strong bleach to keep them sterile needed only a hot water rinse if they were coated with liquid glass. The levels of sterility were higher for the glass-coated surfaces, and the surfaces remained sterile for months.

Other organizations, such as a train company and a hotel chain in the UK, and a hamburger chain in Germany, are also testing liquid glass for a wide range of uses. A year-long trial of the spray in a Lancashire hospital also produced “very promising” results for a range of applications including coatings for equipment, medical implants, catheters, sutures and bandages. The war graves association in the UK is investigating using the spray to treat stone monuments and grave stones, since trials have shown the coating protects against weathering and graffiti. Trials in Turkey are testing the product on monuments such as the Ataturk Mausoleum in Ankara.

The liquid glass coating is breathable, which means it can be used on plants and seeds. Trials in vineyards have found spraying vines increases their resistance to fungal diseases, while other tests have shown sprayed seeds germinate and grow faster than untreated seeds, and coated wood is not attacked by termites. Other vineyard applications include coating corks with liquid glass to prevent “corking” and contamination of wine. The spray cannot be seen by the naked eye, which means it could also be used to treat clothing and other materials to make them stain-resistant. McClelland said you can “pour a bottle of wine over an expensive silk shirt and it will come right off”.

In the home, spray-on glass would eliminate the need for scrubbing and make most cleaning products obsolete. Since it is available in both water-based and alcohol-based solutions, it can be used in the oven, in bathrooms, tiles, sinks, and almost every other surface in the home, and one spray is said to last a year.

Liquid glass spray is perhaps the most important nanotechnology product to emerge to date. It will be available in DIY stores in Britain soon, with prices starting at around £5 ($8 US). Other outlets, such as many supermarkets, may be unwilling to stock the products because they make enormous profits from cleaning products that need to be replaced regularly, and liquid glass would make virtually all of them obsolete.

I was reading this post, and those it links, when an email about a psychotic old friend came in. I was in the middle of expressing my agony in response when there was a loud pounding at my door. FedEx with my new replacement computer. Left Shanghai four days ago. Went to Anchorage, Memphis, Sacramento, Eureka and landed here in the middle of me flipping about all this... just about exactly at noon.

So I'm going to be quiet for the next little while, transferring everything to my new machine, but I will be in a hurry about all of it so I can get back online, searching for ways to turn it away from destruction, poring over all cyberspace for the tear in the fabric of delusion through which sense might shine at last.
