i have been allowed a few moments of spring

So I ran right out and gardened for one of them. I had been irked that the damn roses in barrels were out there entertaining the neighbors, but I couldn't even see a bit of them from any window of my house. So I poked a particularly pleasing dead branch up next to one of the climbing roses that had no means to climb and dumped a lot of compost into its barrel for good measure. I am pleased to announce that now I can see the rose climbing while I'm washing dishes. Another marvel—or sign of the end times—is that the tulips someone planted where it's entirely too dark for them to want ever to bloom have shot up blossoms, all.

They've downgraded the storm from 100% to 80%, but the radar is threatening major cloud-cover again by sunset, which is also moonrise, so I think I'm still doomed to miss this big moon.

For me to get in my go-cart from the eighth dimension to find a place to watch the fullest possible moonrise tonight....

I could maybe carry out my threat to make my cd and learn how to make it play in my go-cart before it's too late to accomplish such a feat...?

.

Naw. I just checked and there's no hope.

I hope wherever you are you are out there gaping at this moon tonight. Kiss it for me.

moondance

Let's moondance.
On 19 March, the full moon will appear unusually large in the night sky as it reaches a point in its cycle known as 'lunar perigee'.

Stargazers will be treated to a spectacular view when the moon approaches Earth at a distance of 221,567 miles in its elliptical orbit — the closest it will have passed to our planet since 1992.

The full moon could appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter in the sky, especially when it rises on the eastern horizon at sunset or is provided with the right atmospheric conditions.

This phenomenon has reportedly heightened concerns about 'supermoons' being linked to extreme weather events — such as earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis. The last time the moon passed close to the Earth was on 10 January 2005, around the time of the Indonesian earthquake that measured 9.0 on the Richter scale.
Don't fear big moons. That's just goofy. If there were any veracity to such a notion, we'd've had it nailed down centuries ago and everybody would learn it in kindergarten. Truly. Don't be a sap. Dance.

Coronal mass ejections cause really pretty Northern Lights, and when they're big, they're not that northern. Heck, everybody might get a gander as the power grid goes down and all our circuits fry. Sounds kind of romantic to me... in the moment... not the sequela... I'm not utterly daft, you know.

I'm recommending the purchase of HORSES. Get 'em while they're still cheap.

i'm cleaning up my blog

Thought maybe I had all kinds of sage things to say to you today, but just managed to blurt out the most urgent of it in the one post. While waiting for the rest of what I had to say to bubble up, I began dealing with the completely outrageous list of fleeting cleverisms that turned up as labels here over the years, and lumping stuff I'd separated out for our convenience back together again, because they are, like, so, way so, ancient history. If you have historical urges that I've thwarted thus, sorry man, but most of it wasn't posted such that it was very googlable anyway. If it's life and death, you can wade, or maybe I can even help you wade, but that goddam label list was dizzying and making it HARD to deal with my label thing at all.

Along the way, I came across some seriously, seriously dead posts, with no living links and no context left to put something back together, so I deleted them. I know there are tons more of that ilk, and may someday have the spit to tackle that, but it was the most urgent to get a grip on the labels. Done.

I also changed some of the sidebar image links to ones that are more suitable for NOW, and tried to find as many dead guys over there as I could, and hope you are remembering to notify me when/if you come across anything over there that's pft on us, so I can do something about it and keep from aggravating future visitors.

I recently added some fancy ass feature to my feed, that included the ability to "email the author"... but... I have a sneaking suspicion that feature does not work. This may be due to newness, but if yer ever in the mood to try that feature, please do, and we can see if it works or not for real. I've gotten a couple of invites to things from the "no reply" thing, but I'm unsure if that's my feed emailer or some organizations' emailers. Basically, I have a loathing for useless "features" and will nix the sucker if it doesn't work for you guys out there in feed land.

Also, while about my business today, three cool links came my way: [1] It Pays To Riot; [2] Sour Grapes Over Putin's Manliness and Involvement With the People of Russia; and [3] A Peutiful Image of the Sun's Corona in Eclipse. So those things ought to make up for my hours and hours of housecleaning while you were left hanging.

Apropos of nothing, I suppose, maybe I should try to look into Plato just a little bit more deeply. He keeps coming up in my travels lately, and that might mean I need to know more about him. Prague keeps popping up too. Lots of Prague lately. You can go a whole lifetime and only come across the idea of Prague very, very occasionally. Maybe even never, depending.... So either I travel in Prague-heavy circles or karma is rapping on my forehead again. Or, of course, it's only a fluke and I'm being colorful again.

How does one tell?

Lots of alternative researchers, mathematicians and physicists have been talking about something large this way coming and have debunked the speed of light as the limit of velocity... but... well... many of them are close personal friends with space aliens, I guess, because nobody else is giving them a place at the table. But, now, robots, that's a different matter. Challenging as heck but doesn't bend their brains, doesn't require them to throw out what everybody only thinks we know.

99 sleeping

.
I am pretty seriously cosmic in my sleep. You sometimes should be wanting to be me. I'm not kidding. There is transcendental stuff going on really close to unconscious, but not unconscious. Sometimes I think I sleep so much, not because I need twice as much to get the same amount of rest as you, but because there is twice as much life while I'm sleeping. The weather has been mostly darn cold, raining down here, but snow just a couple hundred feet up, and I somehow am never as bed-happy as when it's like this out there.

For days I have been prowling around inside the heads of people I don't even know... just doing what I can only think to describe as consciousness hopping... and was doing the same this morning when suddenly some bit about Brad intruded. When I quit I told him I would be available to him for emergencies, stuff he couldn't get handled due to an outage or something like that, but otherwise 99 was pau on his blog. I don't even think it is nice to participate in that... even if he might not be able to fathom my point. So, in my sleep life, I was in some sort of encampment, something like you might picture FARC rebels inhabiting, charged with guarding Brad's master transmitter, and doing it, armed with this lethal weapon that was a knife that shot bullets. Sure enough an intruder had gotten in and I'd drawn my weapon, but Brad arrived to deal with him and all surprised as heck that I'd been on it ahead of him.

So I guess we needn't fear I wouldn't keep my word.

Then the hail became so loud that it woke me up.

I can't even hark back up accurately where in the multifarious comings up into awakeness or goings from it this occurred, but I was at one point finding myself thinking hard back to the moment in my most intense engagement with my teacher when a temptation so overwhelming I could barely breathe had struck. Any of you who know anything about Zen practice, even the shit dealt by charlatans, know that one is to refrain from romantic or sexual entanglement while working on this—not because sex is dirty or unworthy of enlightening being, but because it distracts lethally from achieving the insight at which the entire Zen canon is aimed—and, well, the buddhas tap danced on my forehead one day, making sure I wasn't kidding.

I was in Black Oak Books in Berkeley, in the Buddhist books section, and there was a man browsing around in those books whose presence had my body desperate to hit the floor for him. I was a fifty alarm fire. I was insentient with desire. I was toast. He was a complete stranger, and I'm pretty sure there was nothing objectively sexy about him, but you could not have told that by any cell in my body.

I RAN FROM THE BUILDING.

I was panting with the effort of removing myself from his proximity. I was STILL just reeling from the vertiginous desire. I ran across the street to one of my favorite stores to buy something sexy instead of running back into the bookstore to claim that man for the rest of time.

What I got was more important.

But I still miss him.

Obviously. :-P

I'm looking at the forecast for tomorrow night and it's looking pretty iffy... and darn cold out there in any case... but if it will stay clear for a few hours, it might be worth all the bundling up to go soak some of it in. Nothing like lying on the ground to face the sky for these astronomical events to heal yer aching nerves... puts you back into alignment with the cosmos... or something.

For any of you out there seriously looking for my wealthy socialist gentleman for me, THIS is my man. I want him to be Jean-Luc Picard. Perhaps even Patrick Stewart would find he didn't mind just living out this role with me....

Sigh.
