as though you needed another scrap of evidence that he's clueless

.

He is the Spokesmodel in Chief. Period. You might want to ponder what a fantastically hands-off president he is, but then you are faced with a globe full of his fingerprints. The tough part to grok, I guess, is that his fingerprints can be all over the place without him ever touching a thing more consequential than a microphone. He's not doing his job. He's not even making a showing of doing his job. The only possible way you can give him any plus marks is by thinking that his performance has been SO abysmal that it may constitute his way of alerting the populace that there's been a coup. I don't care WHAT excuse you come up with, he is a most reprehensible fuck even with excuses.

no reason to think he's done any better this time

.

If, after all, we're still even bothering to suppose Obama is doing any of "his" administration more consequential than singing along with Paul McCartney... and I don't think I am.

.

Bear in mind he's doing this singing along DURING the worst environmental disaster in our history, while humanitarians were being slaughtered by our "allies", while we're slaughtering people in Iraq and Afghanistan and Pakistan and, hell, just about everywhere... and so much else.

I have copied a Global Research David Ray Griffin piece here that you might find it readable at all if you have a screen smaller than 21 inches. I will go back in and try to fix the formatting and links in the Notes, if I get the energy, but the information you might not be able to get without even more work at the link is here.
Building What? How SCADs Can Be Hidden in Plain Sight: The 9/11 "Official Story" and the Collapse of WTC Building Seven
by Prof David Ray Griffin
30 May 2010

At 5:21 PM on 9/11, Building 7 of the World Trade Center collapsed, even though it had not been hit by a plane – a fact that is important because of the widespread acceptance of the idea, in spite of its scientific absurdity, that the Twin Towers collapsed because of the combined effect of the impact of the airliners plus the ensuing jet-fuel-fed fires. The collapse of World Trade Center 7 (WTC 7) thereby challenges the official account of the destruction of the World Trade Center, according to which it was accomplished by al-Qaeda hijackers, even if one accepts the government’s scientifically impossible account of the Twin Towers. This fact was recently emphasized in the title of a review article based on my 2009 book, The Mysterious Collapse of World Trade Center 7,[1] by National Medal of Science-winner Lynn Margulis: “Two Hit, Three Down – The Biggest Lie.”[2]

even as i mourn, i know roberts has done the right thing

I sure wish RT would stop hiring Valley Girls for their anchor desks. It would help if someone a little less flippant were interviewing him. He certainly commands the respect. The girl in this one is better.

But they can't dim the truth of what Paul Craig Roberts says... I hope you agree. Even as I will miss his trenchant input online, he is doing the right thing. He isn't continuing to grind out piece after piece after USELESS piece, doing naught but garnering fans, when EFFECTIVENESS must be our only aim, when ACTION is mandatory to positive manifestation. I know this shit comes with a built-in excuse—the-pen-is-mightier-than-the-sword shtick—but that, clearly, isn't so... or not in our current circumstances, anyway. Roberts even says it in his Good-Bye piece.

I wonder how many in the mobs of pen-brandishers who have adored him will HEED him.

Another reminder:
In fact, the world is an abode of truth
for one who is truthful with it
and an abode of well-being
for one who understands it.
It is an abode of riches
for one who learns from it
and an abode of counsel
for one who takes the warning from it.

...

It started out with well-being
and created misfortune,
awakening desires and fears,
causing alarm and alert.
So some people revile it
on a morning of remorse,
while others will praise it
on the day of resurrection,
for the world reminded them
and they bore it in mind,
and it spoke to them
and they verified what it said,
and it cautioned them
and they took the warning.

The world is a transitory abode,
not a permanent abode.
And the people in it
are of two sorts:
one who sells his soul
and ruins it,
and one who ransoms his soul
and frees it.

—Counsels of Ḥaḍrat 'Alī
[translated by Thomas Cleary]
Those who have chosen to keep grinding away at their opinions, their scholarship, their erudition, their righteous invective against the perfidies upon perfidies abounding, putting more energy into the complete assimilation of the nuances of their blog ratings than they ever would into the nuances of taking the warning, are selling their souls and ruining them.

This is exactly why I have to really screw up my generosity to link to Chris Floyd when everything he ever says or does would in other circumstances tend to make me wish he were my husband. This is why I can't go to places like Chris' blog very often, can't hang on Robert Parry's or Ray McGovern's or blankety-blank's every word. If it isn't as to-the-bone truthy as Roberts' stuff—if it's packed with cleverisms, the braggadocio of literary excellence, the fervent straw grasping, the ceaseless and sickening efforts to sound "balanced" and "reasonable" and "non-conspiratorial" while painting their air beings as humane and praiseworthy and adorable, the elevation of virtually meaningless "journalistic" bits to the status of stink bombs to lob at the other side of the culture wars, that sort of thing—what the fuck do we want with it?

At best it is a bunch of otherwise-decent humanity trying to whistle past a graveyard—except the graveyard is our planet—except you can't whistle past the apocalypse.

So bless Paul Craig Roberts for throwing that Seventh Samurai sword on his way out.

I took one look at him and said, "He didn't do it." His expression was this amazing mixture of rage and bewilderment and stoicism and other things I don't know how to express, but I was dirt positive about it the moment I saw him on tv. So maybe you can imagine how I felt when he was assassinated the next day. I loved Kennedy and was plenty upset about that, but this patsy being slaughtered upset me as much at the time... maybe still does, just for different reasons.

I linked this because it is good counterpoint to our fascist media... a reminder... evidentiary....

But in doing so I came across a playlist of Oswald's mother reading letters he'd sent her from Russia, and thought you might be interested in those too.
.

I'm home. All unpacked and here. Cried my head off having to leave Poppa again. I think I must have messed up my sinuses from all that crying because dropping down off the Coast Range into Crescent City tonight my ears were popping like crazy. I stopped at the grocery store there and my ears kept popping the whole time I was there and kept it up until I was almost home. That was pretty weird. But anyway I made it home in one piece and so did Goldie.

i love this guy, but i think he needs to dig a bit deeper

I think he needs to begin paying attention to the rash of sudden resignations from our legislative branch... that might be a clue. I guess I'm saying that it is very much more than just "neocons"... or that "neocons" are way so very much more than PNAC ever indicated... that even more malign forces coöpted PNAC sort of like malign forces shot to the heart of the Tea Party movement... or gave its members the means to their goals. All is excruciatingly not well... plenty too much is rotten in Denmark... and it's best to leave off worrying about Hitchens so much and get to the kernel of this.

And from Tom Dispatch yesterday:
A Very American Coup
By William J. Astore

...

1. Somehow, we need to begin to reverse the ongoing militarization of this country, especially our ever-rising “defense” budgets.  The most recent of these, we’ve just learned, is a staggering $708 billion for fiscal year 2011 -- and that doesn’t even include the $33 billion President Obama has requested for his latest surge in Afghanistan.  We also need to get rid of the idea that anyone who suggests even minor cuts in defense spending is either hopelessly naïve or a terrorist sympathizer.  It’s time as well to call a halt to the privatization of military activity and so halt the rise of security contractors like Xe (formerly Blackwater), thereby weakening the corporate profit motive that supports and underpins the American version of perpetual war.  It’s time to begin feeling chastened, not proud, that we’re by far the number one country in the world in arms manufacturing and the global arms trade.

2. Let’s downsize our global mission rather than endlessly expanding our military footprint.  It’s time to have a military capable of defending this country, not fighting endless wars in distant lands while garrisoning the globe.

3. Let’s stop paying attention to major TV and cable networks that rely on retired senior military officers, most of whom have ties both to the Pentagon and military contractors, for “unbiased” commentary on our wars.  If we insist on fighting our perpetual “frontier” wars, let’s start insisting as well that they be covered in all their bitter reality: the death, the mayhem, the waste, the prisons, and the torture.  Why is our war coverage invariably sanitized to “PG” or even “G,” when we can go to the movies anytime and see “R” rated, pornographically violent films?  And by the way, it’s time to be more critical of the government’s and the media’s use of language and propaganda.  Mindlessly parroting the Patriot Act doesn’t make you patriotic.

4. It’s time to elect a president who doesn’t surround himself with senior “civilian” advisors and ambassadors who are actually retired military generals and admirals, one who won’t accept a Nobel Peace Prize by defending war in theory and escalating it in practice.

5. Let’s toughen up.  Let’s stop deferring to authority figures who promise to “protect” us while abridging our rights.  Let’s stop bowing down before men and women in uniform, before they start thinking that it’s their right to be worshipped and act accordingly.

6. Let’s act now to relieve the sort of desperation bred by joblessness and hopelessness that could lead many—notably male workers suffering from the “He-Cession”—to see a militarized solution in “the homeland” as a credible last resort.  It’s the economy, stupid, but with Main Street’s health, not Wall Street’s, in our focus.

7. Let’s take Sarah Palin and her followers seriously.  They’re tapping into anger that’s real and spreading.  Don’t let them become the voices of the angry working (and increasingly unemployed) classes.

8. Recognize that we face real enemies in our world, the most powerful of which aren’t in distant Afghanistan or Yemen but here at home.  The essence of our struggle to sustain our faltering democracy should not be against “terrorists,” with their shoe and crotch bombs, but against various powerful, perfectly legal groups here whose interests lie in a Pentagon that only grows ever stronger.

9. Stop thinking the U.S. is uniquely privileged.  Don’t take it on faith that God is on our side.  Forget about God blessing America.  If you believe in God, get out there and start trying to earn His blessing through deeds.

10. And, most important of all, remember that fear is the mind-killer that makes militarism possible.  Ramping up “terror” is an amazingly effective way of shredding our Constitution.  Putting our “safety” above all else is asking for trouble.  The only way we’ll be completely safe from the big bad terrorists, after all, is when we’re all living in a maximum security state.  Think of walking down the street while always being subject to a “full-body scan.”

That’s my top 10 things we need to do.  It’s a daunting list and I’m sure you have a few ideas of your own.  But have faith.  Ultimately, it all boils down to Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s words to a nation suffering through the Great Depression: the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

predictably ineffectual

I was up late again last night, reading a long piece about the wonders of Larry Summers -- and the other fiscal titans on Obama's team, most notably Rahmbo, who may not know a dollar from his asshole, but knows what he can make happen in Congress -- and the difficulties, the grave exercise in humility, of turning planning into action in the political arena. Let's just forget that such journalism is but ancestral barnswoggle made new, still delusion itself, our most-honored and all-American tradition, to point out, yet again, that truth is not contained in words. It's in deeds. It's in what actually takes place. All you sophists who wax urbane about there being no truth, or asking whose truth, just shut up and sit down. Stop. Look.

Obama is screwing up badly.

And when I say "Obama" or "Obummer", I'm both speaking of the man himself and the entirety of the administration he heads. I'm speaking of his capitulation to corrupt monsters. Doesn't excuse him that we all know he'd prefer everything to be rosy and everyone to have enough to get by. He won't venture the courage to make that manifest.

So while he is not the problem, he IS the prime unmover for the solution, and richly deserves my ire.

[And this comports almost perfectly with what I took away from the piece on Summers and company. They made the conscious decision to slow our slide, rather than turn it around, because, say they, they didn't think they could get Congress to agree to what it would take to turn it around. They made a political calculation -- which keeps the rich rich, and slows the destinies of the not rich -- instead of doing whatever it takes to save the not rich from ruin. Howz that working out for you?]

THE BOTTOM LINE....

afraid of the cia

Brad is sitting in for Malloy again this week and last night he had Ray McGovern on in the first hour. Near the end of this hour-long mp3 you will hear him telling Brad... and us... that he thinks Obama is afraid of the CIA... JFK kind of afraid... and I think that's darn close to right... maybe dead bang on the nail head. I've mentioned before that I don't think he would be this sucky of a president if he were not fearing for his own life or for his family's. This is no excuse. Anyone who runs for president knows this is the danger, and we all know that oath presidents take does not qualify it with "unless I'm afraid" or "unless I'm threatened by mean people"....
"Let me just leave you with this thought," he said, "and that is that I think Panetta, and to a degree President Obama, are afraid --- I never thought I'd hear myself saying this --- I think they're afraid of the CIA."
It's pretty clear anyway that our government has been hostage to malign forces for a long time, and so I'm not surprised to hear this, but maybe it's time people started talking about it, because it's time to make it go away, dears, way past time to make it go away.

hold on to your hat!

An Iranian friend emailed me the link to this video of someone stumping for Mousavi in the Iranian parliament, not allowing himself to be gaveled down. Here is my response:
This perfectly fits our saying, "Hold on to your hat".... Whereas a similar situation here was more sedate:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6wl_86qnsI

Oh, shoot, you can't watch. It's all the representatives coming in front of Al Gore as President of the Senate to protest the rigged election in 2000, and him having to deny their complaints because they weren't signed by a senator. This would have overridden the Supreme Court decision and given Gore the presidency. Senator Boxer had been willing to sign them, but Gore asked her not to.

He said publicly that after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of GWB the only recourse left to him was "armed insurrection". That wasn't true. He could have let a senator sign off on the complaints from the House. But for some completely unfathomable reason he laid down.

In 2004, Kerry won, everyone was on top of the recount to prove it, and HE too laid down.

We have had two
PROVEN stolen presidential elections, and numberless lesser stolen ones.

Both Gore and Kerry wanted to be President really, really badly, and both did have the means to get past the rigging and take office, yet both mysteriously just gave up, and neither ran again. This says to me, now that I have been able to see things play out that Obama is owned by the same people who frightened Gore and Kerry out of their rightful position. He's owned by the same people who owned Bush. THEY MEAN YOU HARM.

I didn't add that, no matter what, they are safer with the regime they have, because we have been fighting about this back and forth for two weeks now. The Green Revolution is fixated on things inside Iran and ignoring the dangers lurking on the outside trying to get in. They are so fixated that they won't stop to look around, won't see how their indignation, righteous or not, is making Iran much more vulnerable than before.

It is never good to go all in with your emotions, your indignation, what you only think. It creates blind spots the size of nations and more often than not serves only to defeat you, even when you win.
