Don't be distracted.
The price of a barrel of oil is sitting right [around $100] at this moment. How much do you think a “barrel” full of heroin sells for?

For relatively pure heroin, cultivated and shipped from Afghanistan, the world’s largest supplier of heroin — it would net you $19,923,200 USD PER BARREL.

Now, by the time that hits American and Russian streets … and is cut up and diluted several times, you are looking at roughly $60,000,000 – $80,000,000 US dollars per barrel of heroin.
And, just as an aside, just to make your blood boil, dig this....

Don't you love how I start this out telling you not to be distracted and then am too distracted to finish updating the cited post and link you to the latest? I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I will endeavor to remember that I'm a damn airhead before I hit "PUBLISH POST"... but remembering seems to be the problem lately....

Anyway, all fixed now, hours later, and maybe you didn't already try to read this....

Will Secretary of State Britney Spears be making a formal apology for this someday?
An Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms senior agent assigned to the Phoenix office in 2010, Dodson's job is to stop gun trafficking across the border. Instead, he says he was ordered to sit by and watch it happen.

Investigators call the tactic letting guns "walk." In this case, walking into the hands of criminals who would use them in Mexico and the United States.

Dodson's bosses say that never happened. Now, he's risking his job to go public.

"I'm boots on the ground in Phoenix, telling you we've been doing it every day since I've been here," he said. "Here I am. Tell me I didn't do the things that I did. Tell me you didn't order me to do the things I did. Tell me it didn't happen. Now you have a name on it. You have a face to put with it. Here I am. Someone now, tell me it didn't happen."

Agent Dodson and other sources say the gun walking strategy was approved all the way up to the Justice Department. The idea was to see where the guns ended up, build a big case and take down a cartel. And it was all kept secret from Mexico.
I ended up never getting all the way into the House of Death case a few years ago because the people who had most of the evidence were insisting the real scandal was the racism of it all. After many hours slogging through a heavily redacted version of a report, only to be told there was a far less inscrutable version extant for anyone who wanted to take it on in a serious way, I get this racism blather from the holders of the real goods. I had been working on it in a migraine-inducingly serious way. I was pissed to find someone was holding vastly better documentation but reserving it for people willing to cry racism and ignore all that conspiracy theory stuff.

I might have been forced to work with total crap, but even handicapped I was convinced that it was a lot worse than merely a racist DHS/DoJ. It was clearly coming from the top. I did not want to spend any more migraines dealing with a bunch of academics in a snit about how we treat brown people. I can only take jackasses for so long before I start slapping them. So I bailed. They'll be citing this as racist too no doubt.

It still fries me because a bunch of wet hens had their mitts on that case, made a complete quagmire out of it, and nobody evil was even impeded for a nanosecond by it. I had no control over the material I would need to use, but a total jackass did, and was setting the terms, utterly sanguine in the justice of such an attitude. Hypnotized. Never snapping out of it. A dead man, with an email address. I didn't kill him again. I let him "live". I just got in an ice-filled not-a-tub and didn't get out for a week.

What's CBS doing on it? They are on it to hold it up next to Ruby Ridge and Waco, etc., we're supposed to freak out about it. Actually, though, we're supposed to STOP it... not just suddenly turn from the takedown of Gaddafi to make a little trip to speak with Felipe Calderón on the same day this was being released to the public... and then, pft. Has this been splashed all over Groupthink and I'm just blissfully unaware? Or what?

That the so-called PIIIGGS are not bankrupt. Their BANKS are. The only one that has dealt with it properly is Iceland. You should really listen to this Keiser Report. It puts things in perspective.

Another thing I noticed is that RT's report on the Putin interview with Larry King used a translator with a deep voice and a smooth translation rather than the geeky-voiced sputterer CNN used. Hmmmmm. I mean, I've only seen some snippets, still hoping the whole thing comes up, but already we are seen to be using the same low tricks we use on Ahmadinejad... the old crap about finding the most unflattering images of people we don't like to help foster negative impressions.

Exclusive: Corruption charges to feature in WikiLeaks release
By Mark Hosenball
WASHINGTON | Wed Nov 24, 2010 | 4:23pm EST

(Reuters) — Classified U.S. diplomatic cables reporting corruption allegations against foreign governments and leaders are expected in official documents that WikiLeaks plans to release soon, sources said on Wednesday.

The whistle-blowing website said on its Twitter feed this week its next release would be seven times larger than the collection of roughly 400,000 Pentagon reports related to the Iraq war which it made public in October.

Three sources familiar with the State Department cables held by WikiLeaks say the corruption allegations in them are major enough to cause serious embarrassment for foreign governments and politicians named in them.

They said the release was expected next week, but could come earlier.

The detailed, candid reporting by U.S. diplomats also may create foreign policy complications for the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama, the sources said.

Among the countries whose politicians feature in the reports are Russia, Afghanistan and former Soviet republics in Central Asia. But other reports also detail potentially embarrassing allegations reported to Washington from U.S. diplomats in other regions including East Asia and Europe, one of the sources familiar with the WikiLeaks holdings said.

The U.S. government has strongly objected to past WikiLeaks revelations, which it said compromise national security and can put some people at risk.

Past WikiLeaks releases of classified U.S. documents on related to Iraq and Afghanistan have given a battlefield view of both conflicts and sensitive intelligence, but contained few startling revelations.

CREATING TENSION

State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said Washington was assessing the implications of what WikiLeaks may reveal and was notifying foreign governments "that a release of documents is possible in the near future."

"We decry what has happened. These revelations are harmful to the United States and our interests. They are going to create tension in our relationships,' Crowley said. "We wish that this would not happen but we are obviously prepared for the possibility that it will."

Both the State Department and the Pentagon confirmed they had been in touch with lawmakers on Capitol Hill to inform them of what may be coming.

Sources said three international news organizations which previously published stories based on classified U.S. government documents acquired by WikiLeaks — the New York Times, Britain's Guardian newspaper and the German weekly news magazine Der Spiegel — were given access the documents some time ago by Julian Assange, the Australian-born computer hacker who says he is WikiLeaks' founder and leader.

Two of the sources said Assange has also made the documents available to at least two other European publications — the newspapers El Pais of Spain and Le Monde of France.

Assange did not immediately reply to an email seeking comment.

The New York Times, Guardian and Der Spiegel are trying to coordinate when they release their first stories about the material — likely to be next week — but one of the sources said that it is unclear whether Le Monde and El Pais will be publishing on the same schedule.

The sources said the documents — which also report on other local controversies beyond allegations of corruption — may result in more international uproar than did the earlier release by WikiLeaks of Pentagon reports on the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Asked by e-mail to comment on the latest anticipated WikiLeaks release, New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller told Reuters: "If we had a big story in the works, we'd be disinclined to discuss it before publication."
Nope. Not even a little.

Oil gushing at spill site after vent damaged
Cap removed after sub hits vent; 2 cleanup workers die in separate events
BREAKING NEWS
NBC News and news services
updated 9:53 a.m. PT, Wed., June 23, 2010

NEW ORLEANS - Oil was again gushing from the BP spill site on Wednesday after the company was forced to remove the containment cap when a robotic submarine hit a vent. The news came as officials also reported two deaths of people who had been hired for the response effort.

BP hoped to reinstall the cap later Wednesday after fixing the vent and checking for safety.

When the robot bumped the system, gas rose through the vent that carries warm water down to prevent ice-like crystals from forming in the cap, Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said.

The cap was removed and crews were checking to see if crystals had formed before putting it back on. Allen did not say how long that might take.

"There's more coming up than there had been, but it's not a totally unconstrained discharge," Allen said.

In the meantime, a different system was still burning oil on the surface.

Before the problem with the containment cap, it had collected about 700,000 gallons of oil in the previous 24 hours. Another 438,000 gallons was burned.

The current worst-case estimate of what's spewing into the Gulf is about 2.5 million gallons a day. Anywhere from 67 million to 127 million gallons have spilled since the April 20 explosion on the Deepwater Horizon rig that killed 11 workers and blew out a well 5,000 feet underwater. BP PLC was leasing the rig from owner Transocean Ltd.

Gunshot death reported

The deaths reported Wednesday were not tied to the containment operation. The Coast Guard said the workers had been involved in cleanup operations but that their deaths did not appear to be work related.

One death was a boat captain who died of a gunshot wound, a Coast Guard spokesman said. Further details were not immediately available.

Earlier Wednesday, BP said that Bob Dudley was appointed to head the new Gulf Coast Restoration Organization, which is in charge of cleaning up the oil spill.

BP said that the appointment was effective immediately.

Dudley, who had been in charge of BP's operations in the Americas and Asia, will report to Chief Executive Officer Tony Hayward.

"We were always going to set up the organization," he said on NBC's TODAY show. "But we have across the Gulf Coast people that are there temporarily, rotating in and out. We are going to bed this down now — we're in there for the long haul and we're going to make sure we're sustained and efficient in working with the Coast Guard to shut off the well and through the spill response and clean up."

He also was asked if BP would start deepwater drilling again in the Gulf after a judge lifted a White House moratorium.
He replied that BP will "step back" from the issue while the April 20 rig explosion is investigated. "That process is going to take awhile," he added.

BP is the largest oil and gas producer in the Gulf.

[Note harrowing LACK of information about deaths under this heading.]

New drilling ban order

On Tuesday, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said he will issue a new order imposing a moratorium on deepwater drilling after a federal judge struck down the existing one.

Salazar said in a statement that the new order will contain additional information making clear why the six-month drilling pause was necessary in the wake of the Gulf oil spill. The judge in New Orleans who struck down the moratorium earlier in the day complained there wasn't enough justification for it.

Salazar pointed to indications of inadequate industry safety precautions on deepwater wells. "Based on this ever-growing evidence, I will issue a new order in the coming days that eliminates any doubt that a moratorium is needed, appropriate, and within our authorities."

The White House, which had hoped the ban would provide time to ensure other wells are operating safely, immediately said it would appeal.

The judge's ruling comes in a lawsuit filed by drilling companies to reverse the ban imposed by the Department of Interior, which halted the approval of any new permits for deepwater drilling and suspended drilling at 33 exploratory wells in the Gulf.

The federal judge in Louisiana granted the drillers' request for a preliminary restraining order that would prevent the ban from taking effect until a trial is held. He did not set a trial date.

District Judge Martin Feldman said the Interior Department failed to provide adequate reasoning and that the moratorium seems to assume that because one rig failed, all companies and rigs doing deepwater drilling pose an imminent danger.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs countered that "continuing to drill at these depths without knowing what happened does not make any sense and ... potentially puts the safety of those on the rigs and the safety of the environment in the Gulf at a danger that the president does not believe we can afford right now."

[Except, of course, they/we DO know what happened.]

[Oh, oh! All in a good cause, you say? Well, do think again. Lies in good causes tend to turn around and bite big chunks off yer ass sooner or later... and lately the karma is dizzyingly swift. So, yes, THINK AGAIN.]

Salazar said in his late Tuesday statement imposing a moratorium "was and is the right decision."

[Indeed, indeed, but it isn't exactly a moratorium at all, and certainly NOT for the reasons stated, and these should be amended YESTERDAY.]

"We see clear evidence every day, as oil spills from BP's well, of the need for a pause on deepwater drilling," Salazar said. "That evidence mounts as BP continues to be unable to stop its blowout, notwithstanding the huge efforts and help from the federal scientific team and most major oil companies operating in the Gulf of Mexico."

Does judge own oil stock?

Feldman's financial disclosure report for 2008, the most recent available, shows holdings in at least eight petroleum companies or companies that invest in them, including Transocean Ltd., which owned the Deepwater Horizon. The report shows that most of his holdings were valued at less than $15,000, though it did not provide specific amounts.

It's not clear whether Feldman still has all of the energy industry stock listed in the report. Recent court filings indicate he may no longer have Transocean shares. He did not own any shares in big companies such as BP PLC, which was leasing the rig that exploded, or ExxonMobil.

Feldman did not immediately respond to a request for comment about his current holdings.

Josh Reichert, managing director of the Pew Environment Group, said his ruling should be rescinded if he still has investments in companies that could benefit from Tuesday's ruling.

"If Judge Feldman has any investments in oil and gas operators in the Gulf, it represents a flagrant conflict of interest," he said. "It is possible that he has sold off those assets. We just don't know."

The Associated Press, Reuters and NBC News contributed to this report.

When the United States got its cherished airbase at Manas, its attitude towards Kyrgyzstan was dramatically transformed. Suddenly only the base mattered, and the United States appeared ready to do almost anything to keep it. Suddenly the U.S.-Kyrgyz relationship was nothing more than an aspect of a logistics operation by the J5 Directorate at CENTCOM. And suddenly the United States went from preaching transparency and anti-corruption measures to cutting the biggest and most obviously corrupt deals in the country. It was quite a slide, from the perspective of civil society in Kyrgyzstan.
So. They stood up.

head shill, rahmbette malden huffington's latest hit job

[click image of Arianna Huffington greeting Rupert Murdoch]

There seems to be a great deal of skepticism about Massa's explanation for his departure from Congress. I swallowed hard and listened to the entire interview with Glenn Beck and then this snippet from his appearance with Larry King, and find I believe him about Rahmbo poking him in the chest in the shower, and about why he quit. I don't know if he really did anything so unethical as to sexually harass any staff, but we all know it wouldn't even have come up if he did... unless they wanted to dump his ass. So that part of it is actually moot.

Beck seemed irked that Massa would not dish enough dirt on this mechanism for political hardball, and we all should be irked about that, but no one should be surprised, because the hardball gets exponentially worse, sometimes lethal, when someone attempts to do that.

There is little reasonable doubt that the White House was doing this to him because they are bent on passing this fascist "health" bill, and the head shill for the Democratic Fascist Party is out there with everyone else in Emanuel's pocket to fuck with your head nonstop until he gets his way.

And I do NOT mean TALK....

Arguing doesn't cut it.

Robert Greenwald emailed me this morning with some of his "evidence" that the Tea Parties are full of racist scumbags, and I replied:
Quit fomenting civil war and START helping find ways to make common cause with people brave/stupid enough to rise up against fascism. We need a REVOLUTION and we have to stop producing hit jobs on each other, and start learning how to postpone our ideological differences until AFTER we have gotten back our country. YOU should not pretend to bravery if you can't stop yourself and realize what you are doing is just culture warring, and MORE than just acceptable to the people we really should be fighting.
...without any coffee in me yet.

Here's a woman that purportedly brave new filmer is vilifying... she may have her terms a little too fuzzily in mind, but she identified the problem and the need to unite a couple years ahead of the rest of us... so she's not stupid. She's not a hater. She's your sister.

These crappy hit jobs from people trying to make a living at the culture wars are not just no-holds-barred debating tactics. It's LETHAL shit. Lethal to US. ALL of us on Planet Earth. In a real sense Glenn Beck is no more perfidious than Robert Greenwald. Stop. Repeat the mantra. Open yer head. See the truth. The corruption has penetrated every nook and cranny of our society.
