80% of AMERICANS don't know what's going on, bobby... more than that....

I think I would die and go to heaven if Bobby could pry himself loose from the Democratic-Fascist Party. I love the guy to itty bitty bits. He's like my father, with a sense of faithfulness about certain things that is unbreakable, even when the price is too dear, when his suffering has to be more than most of us think bearable.
SolFest XIV: Robert F. Kennedy Jr. brings his environmental message to Ukiah
26 September 2010

Listeners packed the seats under a massive shade by the main stage and stood in the hot sun to hear Robert F. Kennedy Jr. speak Saturday at the 14th annual SolFest, held at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds in Ukiah.

Kennedy is an attorney specializing in environmental law, and was named a "hero for the planet" by Time Magazine in 2005, for his success helping the New York-based Riverkeeper organization restore the Hudson River, and has written several books.

Punctuated by applause and approving cheers, Kennedy spent a little more than an hour challenging the idea he says is pushed by "corporate crony capitalism" that environmentally friendly business can't be prosperous.

"One of the things that they've said, and that they've kind of ingrained in the American consciousness, is this mantra that we have to choose between environmental protection on one hand and economic prosperity on the other, and that is a false choice; in 100 percent of the situations, good environmental policy is identical to good economic policy," he said.

Kennedy said continuing to use coal and other carbon-generating energy sources "is to treat the planet as if it were a business in liquidation," and could create "a few years of pollution-based prosperity," and generate "instantaneous cash flow, and the illusion of a prosperous economy, but our children are going to pay for our joy ride."

He continued, "Environmental injury is deficit spending; it's a way of loading the costs of our generation's prosperity onto the backs of our children."

Kennedy said as an environmental advocate he has spent 25 years combating the notion that "investment in our environment is a diminishment of our nation's wealth. It doesn't diminish our wealth; it's an investment in infrastructure."

He spoke at length about a "$200 million, 20-year propaganda campaign by the coal brothers and big oil and all that phony infrastructure, that has persuaded Americans that global warming doesn't exist, and abetted, incidentally, by a negligent and indolent press that we have in this country."

He went on to decry the idea that the "liberal media" exists, and said, "You can't have a democracy very long if you don't have an informed public."

He opined, "80 percent of Republicans are just Democrats who don't know what's going on."

Kennedy spent most of his time onstage talking about the "costs of carbon on our society," which he said is part of "our addiction to Saudi oil."

First, he talked about the harms of nuclear power, saying industry defenders cited no nuclear accidents since Chernobyl, a 1986 disaster involving nuclear fallout that spread from a series of explosions at the nuclear power plant in Ukraine, and is considered the worst nuclear accident in history.

The audience laughed at Kennedy's reference to the argument that there had been no nuclear accidents since, and Kennedy went on to say Russian scientists recently reported 965,000 people died as a result of that accident, as opposed to the few hundred reported initially.

The audience responded with sounds of astonishment and dismay.

"I always say, If you're safe, then get an insurance policy just like everybody else in this country.'"

Insurance companies are the "final arbiter of risk" in a capitalist society, he said, adding that an insurance policy for the nuclear industry would be "so high that (they) wouldn't be able to operate."

He cited the Price-Anderson Act as absolving the nuclear industry of responsibility for the costs of accidents at nuclear power plants.

"So they shifted all the costs to us - to you and me," telling listeners to check their homeowner's insurance policies, where he said they would find a clause that says the policy doesn't cover radiation from nuclear accidents.

"It's not a bunch of hippies in tie-dyed T-shirts from Mendocino with the hula-hoops saying you're (nuclear industry) not safe; it's guys in suits from AIG and Wall Street who are saying, We're not going to insure you,'" Kennedy said, over the audience's laughter and applause.

He went on to talk about the coal industry, first saying taxpayers fund the frequent and expensive maintenance of roads in West Virginia used by 90,000-pound coal trucks, to the tune of "millions" per inch of asphalt per mile of road.

"It's not the coal industry that's paying that cost, it's the people of the state and the people of our country - some of these are federal highways," he said.

Kennedy said part of the reason high-speed rail can't happen is "because coal gondolas are so heavy they've warped virtually every rail track in our country."

He continued, "That's part of the cost of coal they don't tell you about when they say it's 11 cents a kilowatt."

A five-year study issued by the National Academy of Science and the National Research Council showed every freshwater fish in the nation is contaminated with mercury, Kennedy said, adding that 80 percent of the mercury came from coal-burning power plants.

"We're living today, in our country, in a science fiction nightmare," he said.

A study on the Environmental Protection Agency's website says the healthcare costs from ozone particulates in the air is $156 billion - "from coal plants," Kennedy said.

"The big threat to our country ultimately is coming from corporate control turning us back into a feudal plutocracy, and this is exhibit one: they're privatizing all the public trust resources," he said, referring to fish and streams people have to pay to use.

More "costs of coal" Kennedy enumerated included the sterilization of one-fifth of the lakes in the Adirondacks by acid rain and destruction of the forests in the Appalachians from "Georgia to Northern Quebec."

"We are literally cutting down the Appalachian Mountains," he said, painting a verbal picture of 22-story machines that cut the tops off of the mountains to get at the coal seams and scrape the rubble into streams and orchards.

"If this happened in California people would be in jail," he said, referring to the flattening of 1.4 million acres and what he said the EPA called the burial of 2,000 miles of rivers and streams. "But because it's a poor, beaten state with virtually no democracy left, it just happens."

Kennedy said he and Riverkeeper sued the coal companies responsible and won, but not before the companies changed the law so that dumping debris in waterways requires only a permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which he said can be easy to get.

"This is not just the destruction of the environment; it is the subversion of American democracy," he said. "If we had a true free-market economy in our country, where you couldn't get subsidies, nobody would be using anything but solar or wind, and coal would be a laughable joke, and nuke and all these others."

He said the wind in the Midwest could power the North American grid three times over, even if everyone owned an electric car.

Obstacles to rebuilding the grid, he said, include "putting a price on carbon," upgrading the transmission system to allow wind or solar energy generated to be distributed throughout the country and creating a "unified system" that would allow greater access to the grid.

Solar power, he said, would "democratize" the country's power system.

"The political system tends to mirror the economic system," he said. "If you have a marketplace where every American turns into an energy entrepreneur, every home into a power plant, and we can power this country based on American initiative and resourcefulness and intelligence rather than Saudi oil, it creates a resilient system," he said.

Solar, he said, "is free energy forever," and was applauded wildly.

Building the infrastructure needed to decarbonize the nation - at $3 billion per gigawatt - Kennedy said would cost $3 trillion, "less than the Iraq war."

He talked about competition with China, which is planning to increase its wind power deployment by 20,000 percent and solar power by 1,200 percent over five years.

Kennedy said America has spent the last 50 years "addicted to Saudi oil," and "they (China) want us in a position where we're going to spend the next 50 years addicted to Chinese wind turbines and solar panels."

In closing, Kennedy said people often asked him what is the most important environmental law.

"I always said, it's free market capitalism," he said. "The reason for that is that the marketplace inspires efficiency," defining pollution as waste.

"In a true free market, you can't make yourself rich without making your neighbors rich and without enriching your community."

Touted as the "greenest show on earth," SolFest features speakers, vendors, information booths, workshops and activities centered around environmentally friendly practices. It continues today.

On the main stage today are speakers Ed Begley Jr. on "Live simply so that others can live simply," at 10 a.m.; David Orr on "sunlight, sustainability, security - a necessary marriage," at noon; Kent Halliburton on "funding renewable energy and energy," at 1 p.m.; and Arianna Huffington on "Third-world America and community building," at 4 p.m.
In one minute, Ms. Groupthink her own self will be mounting the podium. I wish I were there to egg her.

I asked you to pay attention to Alex Collier a night or two ago. I'm asking again. If you listened to him, or have heard him in the past, or bother to google around for videos of him speaking, you will know that beside sticking to an utterly fantastical story about visits with ETs, the guy is a FOUNTAIN of saving-all-sentient-beings talk, buddha talk. He's one of those "wingnuts" who calls what's happening now "socialism". I want you to listen to this man talking and TELL me he's some asshole more important to dis than to hear.

It's good practice for you, and it could be a crucial ingredient in something VITAL to life on earth.

Not a drill. This is not a drill.

You have been conditioned from childhood not to hear the truth, to opt for puffing up behind your opinion of others' beliefs or ideas, utterly incapable of hearing them, finding common ground with them, working with them to make a better world. You have been conditioned to insure the murderating fucks who run the world keep running the world. OPEN YER HEAD. Get a load of your error, and stop erring.

All these thought experiments I've been tossing at you? They were so you could learn how to hear past your conditioning, to hear what's being SAID instead of what you think of what's being said. You cannot keep a bead on actuality, even as it plays out right under your nose 24/7/365, until you learn to turn off the hall monitor planted in your head, take your intelligence out of the service of only your ego, and put it in the service of who you really are, who everyone is.

Stop being a fucking flummoxed zombie! We are in trouble deep.

1st and 2nd amendments duking it out on my blog

.

Here we have a couple wild-eyed libertarians talking about the Supreme Court decision in favor of the 2nd Amendment. I have felt relief over this decision and that is rare enough with this miserable excuse for a third branch of government. I am gobsmacked to learn that it may well be that I am in the most agreement with Justice Thomas... just keep reminding myself that even a broken clock is right twice a day.... It all adds up to a sliver of a chance we can wrest the Constitution back and overthrow, or walk back, this tyranny. Not an inconsiderable blessing these days, you might agree, even if you don't agree with the decision itself... or what I make of it.

My dear, possibly former, friend Blue! took issue with my approval of this decision. He does, or did, not seem able to see how insulting his opening remarks were... to me... to his fellow citizens... to people who would die for him... would use their guns to defend him. I was immediately angered by this because I have been wailing my head off, with all the stops pulled out, about this stuff for at least a year, and arguing with the stops left in for years before that, and he knows at least the last six months of it. He has mattered to me so much because for this time he has always seemed to be able to see my points in this general matter of ceasing the stupid, stupid, stupid wedge issue wars, the Hatfield and McCoy action, the "planeticidally" beside the point raging back and forth between Blue-Fascists-in-Denial and Red-Fascists-in-Denial. He ended up proclaiming that people aren't allowed to disagree with me.

Bullshit.

You ARE allowed to disagree with me, AND to tell me what you think of me. You just can't expect that I'm going to amiably respond to positions I can see are DANGEROUS to living things. I love to be shown where I am wrong and if you ever really think I am wrong, you go into my bag full of good people if you bother to tell me so, and you get put atop my Everest of heroes if you open up some corner of my brain in the process. You get these glorious and coveted honors for being courageous enough to interact honestly and in good faith. It isn't so usual that people will risk amity to advance each other's insight and understanding, and that is a constant sorrow to me. I, as you have seen, do it all the time, because it's the path to enlightenment, to meaningful discourse.

So, anyway, while the 1st Amendment is in fact disregarded here when trolls pop in to be assholes and other types of offensive expression, you most certainly ARE allowed to disagree with me all you want. If yer disagreeable about it, the chances are high that I will mirror that in my response, but very low that you will be censored or unwelcome if you are honestly and in good faith taking issue with me.

If I can't take it, I say so. If I don't want to be agonized by a subject here, I say so, and why. That seems completely fair to me. Since I put so much work into my blog, I really DO expect to be able to cut off harassment with subjects that threaten to send me screaming naked off a cliff—AGAIN—so, no, the 1st Amendment is not respected here any more than it is respected in my house when someone's driving me mad, but you ARE most emphatically allowed and encouraged to disagree with me here or anywhere at any time.

After the jump you will find evidence of the full exchange with Blue! on this matter. It's looooong....

FINALLY a tea party video not skewed to make people look like jackasses

.
It's about time. This has been one of the most demoralizing features of Left Blogistan for me, and The Real News has disappointed me with a lot of the stuff they've done, but this short piece is way more balanced than any other go-in-and-interview-the-opposition, or even any of the go-in-and-interview-the-man-on-the-street videos I've seen to date. They ALL have been nothing more than tight analogs of the video done by that little criminal who made it look as though ACORN was in the business of helping pimps and working girls get over on the system. You can make a video look as though people are saying anything you want them to be saying.

Witness that abortion they broadcast about Tim McVeigh on MSNBC last night. They made it look as though he said exactly what it serves them to have us think he said. Worse than twaddle! It's lethally delusory shit.

The left is as guilty, even in a sense MORE guilty, of this murderous stuff as the right has been, because the left does it with so much more finesse. The left appeals to people not stupid or selfish enough to buy the bullcrap cranked out by the right's propaganda machine. The right has going for it that its rubes generally have more honesty and courage. The left has going for it that its rubes generally have more education and—until recently—solidarity with the downtrodden. Note, please, the distinction here I'm making between the rubes from both sides and the lying pundits from both sides who mindfuck the rubes for a living.

I have long maintained that conservatives are the people you want around you when you are in trouble. They will knock themselves out to help you. Liberals will call the authorities. Struth, dudes. Deal with it. And we have to start remembering that Ruby Ridge and Waco were atrocities against the People by the State at least on a par with all the union busting done by the right... maybe worse... I can argue both sides of that one.

Here, with this video, I am going to trust you not to be a partisan asshole and see how these people can think the way they think without being dangerous to your ideals for how our society should work. Our government has created this horrific mess we are in—Republicans and Democrats alike—and ALWAYS take corporate and plutocratic advantage to be more important than any or all of US. You gotta stop wanting to identify yourself as a liberal or a conservative so badly that you spend all your time vilifying your countrymen and NONE of it even talking about stopping the real harm.

TRUTH and JUSTICE are what matter. Of these, truth is THE most crucial part. Justice is also vital, but NOT in the sense of retribution so much as in the sense of equality and solidarity. You're going to insist upon a bunch of relative truths that fuel your partisanship, and I'm going to tear out my hair. People are FOREVER going on about "which truth" and "there is no absolute truth" and shit like that, and I keep tearing out my hair. Truth is stuff like we've killed at least a million Iraqis; I'm wearing my Emu boots; there's a fresh cup of coffee to the left of my keyboard right now; Obama has worsened and strengthened most of the crimes of the last administration; we have a broken government full of fuckers on the take and completely ignoring the Constitution... that sort of thing. See you can't EVER get justice if you don't master the truth part.

If you keep missing it, and you keep missing it, there not only will never be justice, but all your intense effort amounts to GOSSIP. Period.

I didn't just say that to be insulting. I said it because I love you and it hurts me to see you struggling so hard for bubkes.

I've long held that I would join the Libertarian Party if they'd just put something in there about a social safety net and universal health care. This would be enough of a compromise for me because I don't believe any human should have to pay for food, housing, clothing, utilities, anything we need to live long, healthy and happy lives. I think you're an evil-bastard-in-denial if you think otherwise, and only ever don't rip you to ribbons because you've been conditioned to think otherwise since the day you were born, but nonetheless I can see how the Libertarian position on tearing our government down to bare bones might be the ONLY feasible way of ever attaining the leftist's ideal society. Maybe even the Libertarians' way, but probably not. Maybe. Probably not. Still, we would HAVE to start by doing it their way, stripping the government down to almost nothing, before we could put in the stuff that is mandatory to keeping the WHOLE population served.

I said SERVED, not STRANGLED. And the people we are calling "liberals" nowadays are for strangulation over liberation.

Fuck them. No. REALLY. Fuck them.

People have to learn to discern between what's ACTUAL and what's just their own likes and dislikes, their own pet causes, their own opinions, their own sense of personal IDENTITY. What kind of a pig picks that stuff over neighbors, countrymen, species, all living things?

We are so fucked.

We don't have to agree on the particulars AFTER we have performed on the crucial things we already DO utterly agree upon, which of themselves would make Planet Earth a hugely better place for ALL living things the moment we accomplished them.

You gotta listen. You gotta listen. You gotta LISTEN!

The fate of the whole world could literally depend on it.

Take it from Moyers if you won't take it from me.

Note, even Moyers thinks the Tea Party Movement just needs a little tuning....

And also note that Bill Moyers Journal will continue on the web even after it leaves the air two weeks from now.
.

Look. Electronic vote tabulation is not mandatory to the control by this oligarchy. It makes it way easier for them, but it doesn't materially alter their ultimate control. Similarly, this Unitary Executive shit that it looks as though Obama, too, will go after, through putting Kagan on the Supreme Court, simply makes it way easier for them. I remember progressives screeching about how, if for NO other reason, we HAD to have Obama for the Supreme Court nominations alone, that if EVERYTHING else were equal, or even lacking, it HAD to be him to keep the Supremes from turning this into the Fourth Reich....

So. Friends. We have SERIOUS problems on top of us. Voting won't fix them. The Supreme Court won't fix them.

What really is the problem with joining the Tea Parties and bringing them up to speed?

Lew Rockwell interviewed Naomi Wolf—and sort of vice versa—shortly before the 2008 presidential election and I never heard it until today. It is SERIOUSLY important stuff.

Jesus.

WHAT'S WRONG WITH EVERYBODY?
.

One thing that pissed me off was when they got to the part about having kids and needing to keep one's head down on account of the kids. This HORSESHIT has been drilled into us over the course of decades—and since it's been repeated often enough even people this intelligent believe it—just as though no one with children ever participated in a war or a protest or a strike where there were very possibly lethal consequences. We do it FOR our kids. Whut? Have yer kids turned into yer reason to do this all-hat-and-no-cattle trip? Ain't that sweet. Nice work if you can get it.

IS THIS WHY IT'S OKAY WITH YOU THAT WE'RE SLAUGHTERING MOTHERS AND FATHERS AND CHILDREN AND AUNTS AND UNCLES AND COUSINS AND GRAMPAS AND GRAMMAS EVERY MOTHERFUCKING DAY?

I want to go postal on people who keep pleading that their jobs and families are more important than paying attention to actuality, let alone to DO anything about it. You ONLY have jobs and families because people went out and died to get them and keep them for you. And for those of you taking refuge in relief that the dying is being done by foreigners for our lifestyles, guess again. Let the stats smacking you in the face every day sink in.

14 April 2010

this progressives impeding justice thing really gets on my nerves

.
My first take on this piece was to be reminded of my suspicions that men are beset by PMS sometimes, and it reminded me of the time, years ago, that Jeffrey St. Clair went postal on Bonnie Raitt for performing at a benefit that benefitted some organization that was tangentially related to a second cousin thrice removed of a grody corporation that secretly profited by pooping in baby food. I had to beat him over the head with a sledge hammer to remind him that Ms. Raitt is an entertainer and if he expects her to vet every charity that scrupulously he better volunteer.

Honestly, so many seriously intelligent men get stuck in a hall of mirrors with their lamentably all-too-male egos and it's hell fishing them back out... actually, usually impossible. So this was my first take on Raimondo's thing here, but I skimmed down to the end where he makes some cogent points about the failures on both the right and the left, so I went back up and skimmed it harder.

I don't know if all that gossipy stuff about Cryptome vs. Wikileaks is called for, and I'm pretty sure he's being grossly unfair to Stephen Colbert—not having seen his show in a long time, I can't say for certain—but it is a major service to mankind that he points out that some of our most respected bastions of progressivism are fucking us up. I'm sick of the old herding cats meme about liberals. That's just a cute excuse for being lethally self-regarding and incompetent. So I think you should take a look here.

a man dies

.
Deep down in our non-violent creed is the conviction there are some things so dear, some things so precious, some things so eternally true, that they're worth dying for. And if a man happens to be 36-years-old, as I happen to be, some great truth stands before the door of his life—some great opportunity to stand up for that which is right.

A man might be afraid his home will get bombed, or he's afraid that he will lose his job, or he's afraid that he will get shot, or beat down by state troopers, and he may go on and live until he's 80. He's just as dead at 36 as he would be at 80. The cessation of breathing in his life is merely the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit. He died....

A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true.

.

We always quote these guys, play videos of them, remind each other of them, maybe even obsess on them sometimes... and yet... and yet... we don't find that much courage and heart... don't take their counsel.

We don't.

When will we?

the revolution could simply be fought in our heads

[click image, Part TwoPart Three, video, three hours total, and if you bother to watch these, you should ask yourself if you want Rockefellers and Rothschilds in charge of this stuff... if you want Dick Cheney to have endless replacement parts while your kid can't even get treatment for asthma... You should ask yourself just how ready ARE we for ANY revolution, for the revolutions tumbling down on us right now? WHAT SHOULD BE THE CHARACTER OF ANY SOCIETY WITH THIS KIND OF TECHNOLOGY?]

.
... I ...
You aren't going to find me suddenly one day not hounding you to get off your ass and rise up, but don't mistake this for a bloodthirsty impulse, or for lethal naiveté about the ghosts of our forefathers mystically inhabiting any leadership that arises with us. My point is that there is no alternative means of stopping the harm, the outrageous criminality, the abjection to sociopathic impulses. None.

I'm not inciting you to violence. I am telling you that you must not shrink from the violence that surely inheres an effort to quell an uprising that would be effective. You have to get out in the streets both physically and metaphorically and that does mean being noticed by the sociopaths who must be stopped. So we do it in our millions. The vanguard is making itself a target so you will run out your front door to reinforce it. It's out there to get you to join it. You're dunning it for its misspellings and pitching hissies about its political misapprehensions, even as it very plainly is trying to stand up for YOUR life.

What would be wrong with having a little humility and teaching yourself to stick up for your misapprehending brothers and sisters who will never win a spelling bee? What would happen if you suddenly started piping up against the strident fuckers with sham spines, that evil tide of fascists-in-denial who want you to think of them as "progressives", in defense of the courage and altruism of the politically incorrect? How UGLY AMERICAN is it to keep deflecting the awful truth you KNOW, but terrifies you too much to admit? You scream and whine about them hating America for listening to the fascist shills on Fox, but can't hear the fascist shilling going on full blast at MSNBC and HuffPo and TPM because... because... because whut? They know how to spell? Their shilling is more subtle and nuanced?

Is that right?

That's right.

The sociopaths recognized that our side needs more nuance and élan to be brought along peacefully. So they let us have Obama, and they are now ripping the guts out of America much more subtly, and MUCH more viciously than ever before.

So what if—since yer so good with yer mouth—you just started DEFENDING the people who, agree with them or not, have the courage to defend you? What if Naomi Wolf and David Swanson and Chris Floyd started getting up to address the Tea Parties? Are you SURE Sarah Palin would stay a bigger draw? Yes, you are. Is that right? No, you stupid fucks, it is wrong. Getting up in solidarity with their American impulse to protest and to fight fascism will be met with GRATITUDE... if leaving some a bit mystified.

For the ENTIRE history of America we all, from every walk, have agreed to protect each other's rights and to stand for liberty and justice for all, no matter WHAT else we think, but only some of us are honoring that social contract... and these are mostly NOT from the purported "left".

I don't know if you labored through Kenney's dud style of interviewing my anti-Zionist homeboy last night, but in that interview he mentions about how the "left" skipped its big chance to put down Israeli aggression once and for all because Pappy Bush was the one who'd get the credit for it.

YOUR PARTISANSHIP AND PUSILLANIMITY IS GENOCIDAL.

So I'm asking you to get brave enough to STOP blasting away against the only Americans standing up for America, and, further, to save yer sorry souls by DEFENDING them instead. Maybe you won't run out onto the streets to wrest our lifeblood and treasure from sociopaths out to slaughter and enslave vast swaths of humanity—INCLUDING YOU—but you CAN sit down and pick out what you find admirable about your illiterate and gauche brothers and sisters, and emphasize THAT instead of your own immoral—IMMORTAL—complicity.

The tide of public opinion itself, if large enough, could turn this around—because these new world order fucks are in a supremely weak position, globally, just hanging on by a thread, and needing badly to have you in a lock or lose it all—but it has to be huge, and it won't be huge enough to save any of us if a whole lot of us don't cut this shit out.

Don't like me assailing your precious virtue? Tough shit. DEAL with it. WTF would be wrong with GETTING SOME instead of keeping up your sickeningly self-serving and life-harming excuses?

WHO were the Nazis? They were the dominant incarnation of a global business élite, which also showed itself in the Fascisti in Italy, but consisted behind these fronts of plutocrats from all over, INCLUDING the United States and England. We, the Allies, did not beat fascism, did not beat the Nazis, in World War Two. The oligarchs just realized they'd wrung every dollar from it they could without obliterating technological prizes, divvied up the scientists, moved them out of Germany, and called the whole thing off. They have continued in their schemes—lo, these sixty-five years intervening—and now find themselves in position to attempt what they didn't manage back then. We have all been referring to it as "globalization" for something like twenty years now, give or take, without, in the main, ever realizing what we are saying.

It's a Nazi term.

It's a fascist term.

It's what's happening to America right now. It is trite by now to remind you that THIS is the answer to our constant questioning about how ever in the world could the German people have countenanced the rise of Hitler, of Nazism.

YOUR EXCUSES ARE PRECISELY HOW THAT HAPPENED.
.
... II ...
BTW, if yer reaction to my beating you over the head with your own stupidity is to become even more adamant about your excuses, your judgments about the jackasses out there stubbornly voting against their own interests, with attitude, who WON'T listen to reason, no matter what, THIS answers THAT question too. LOOK IN THE MIRROR.

Oh, no, 99, I can't fight against the Death Star's Lord Vader with those people because they worship an invisible friend. I can't fight for all mankind alongside anyone who would keep homosexuals from marrying. I can't be counted in a crowd against our vampire overlords if they can't even spell their wrongheaded signs. You can never convince me anyone who's been duped by a bunch of overpaid shills is brave enough to thwart the Emperor. No! 99! Yer just full of happy claptrap about courage and heart. They're cannon fodder, stupid hicks who want to slaughter sand niggers and molest children at Bible Camp. They are not trying to stop the Death Star! They just want Sarah Palin to front for it! Yeah, that's the ticket! They just want Sarah Palin to get back at Obama for being a glib community organizer where only narcissistic sociopath bumpkin governors belong! This isn't a fight between The Force and The Empire! This is a fight between the decent proponents of an enlightened society and farting and belching cavemen for whose turn it will next be to lead us.

Never mind that "lead us" is a euphemism for "follow Lord Vader's orders" and never mind that the fight that must be fought is the one common to cavemen and ivory tower dwellers alike. No, no. Don't pay attention to that. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. Just look at the big looming head and keep fighting someone more your own size.

You know, NONE of that matters. If we don't blow up the Death Star we won't ever be able to duke it out to decide any of that stuff. The whole world will continue to be done to us and we will continue to be spit out at whim, continue with our health and our food and every penny we ever worked for completely subject to their whim. You'll get treated better if you work your brains out, for as long as you can work your brains out the way they say is okay, where they say it's okay, and for whatever pay they feel like letting you use to keep body and soul together. The moment something impedes your steady production will be the moment something impedes your steady breathing. And all this will only be so long as they see a profit in it. The instant they see that robbing you of more of your ability to pay for life necessities, while shortening your productive life, actually enhances their bottom line, you won't even be allowed to work your brains out to stay alive.

It's already happening.

Those farting cavemen who can't spell "moron" are protesting ever more loudly about it.

Are they right to manipulate your preference for serfdom over pain? Is it okay to stay thinking like the herd when the herd is fed what to think by bastards who know how to funnel the herd from its pasture straight to the abattoir? You know that if you leave it up to them, YOU will lose, but you keep getting distracted by all these hypnotic ideas and lies and the constant goosing with horror stories... tasers... underwear bombs... scary mullahs... people going postal in the cockpits of their planes... on campuses... in the woods practicing with paint guns... toe tapping in the men's room... drone attacks... active denial technology... angry colored people... jackknifed chemical tankers... missing children... the streets of Mexico littered with corpses... earthquakes... hurricanes... tsunamis... suicide bombs.

Sure we should legalize pot.

Is that the way life on earth should be? Is that the way it has to be?

Are Oprah and Rupert and Warren really worth more than the billions living outside the castle walls?

Is that right?

Is all this happening to everyone really less important than staying too busy with your Hatfield and McCoy trip to ever have to face Vader's light saber?

I think so. I really think that's it.

You know, I've been listening to a couple of those wackos with an imaginary friend talking about pretty much exactly what I always talk about, and actually seem to have the same idea about removing the power of the Death Star by ceasing to fear them, ceasing to heed them, them just ending up being taken out by a population that finds itself suddenly sick to death of their shit... sort of like the end of Ceauşescu, only, optimally, without the slaughter part... but they are also counseling that we should all be praying for the Death Star people. Not that they get what's coming to them, but that they awaken to the harm and stop it. They don't seem to think that their imaginary friend will do this, but rather that there is this power when vast numbers of people set their hearts on something together, from wherever, all over, just a big enough number of humans willing certain of us to wake up....

I think that's pretty cool. I don't see what's so all-fired unforgivable about their religious beliefs that you couldn't go out there with them and pump your fist at the cameras with them... or stay in and join their prayer... or go out and pump your fist and join this prayer.

Are you really telling me you can't hang with this?

I mean, we all knew what he meant and would it be better if he'd picketed for us to get a heart?

Naw. Too sappy.

I mean, did you ever stop to think that if we didn't have to be filling these few plutocrats' coffers with piles of lucre the size of Jupiter, we would not need a giant government to create our ideal world? All those "assholes" we revile for wanting to drown it in a bathtub might not actually be nearly as assholish as we suppose. Or maybe some of them are but would be mollified completely into being blandly content Joe Nobodies if they weren't having to pay and pay and pay for shit that NEVER does anything but rip us off and get us blown up and dead or maimed in some third world country... in some other third world country, that is. [See below for details.]

I bet you never stopped to think of that.

Hell! They're SPACE LIZARDS, literally or metaphorically, and there's no telling. They are strict adherents to perfidies so perfidious people have died horribly of them for millennia, perfidies only ancient brutes could have concocted and modern ones still observe. Aren't we always going on about LEARNING from history? What really is the problem here?

There are people walking around on this planet who believe we are being farmed as food for space aliens. This is neither here nor there to me, because we are being farmed as food by space lizards we can see and touch and vote for... and so it's probably only their subconsciousnesses trying to shield these hysterical people from utterly unacceptable reality with all these ideas about spacecraft and ghastly flesh-eaters off-world. They're RIGHT HERE.

You can't make reality acceptable if you can't put yourself through it to see it and fix it.

It is doing me good to see at least SOME people waking up from this lethal shit. We're like Corgis butting in against Pit Bulls and Bernese Mountain Dogs in their STUPID tug-of-war suicide mission.

sing it, naomi!

What a marvelous thing to wake up to! If you don't want to register at OpEd News, you can just hit the iTunes button and listen to it on iTunes.

AND, OF COURSE, YOU REALLY SHOULD, BECAUSE IT'S NAOMI, AND SHE'S RIGHT!

Of course, as usual.

It's a little irritating because they keep making her stop to explain terms like "oligarchy" and "open vs. closed society" but... if that's what it takes... fine!

GO NAOMI!

Back before Jeans West/GAP bought the Banana Republic, which was this WONDERFUL little boutique in Mill Valley that sold outrageously chic military surplus clothes, their bags had this wonderful doodle all over them, with a big peace sign and a bunch of other stuff, and the logo read: DON'T BE STUPID — CHOOSE LOVE. I saved their bags and tacked them up on my walls.

Naomi must have shopped there too....
